Hello, I am making my WWII outfit, and have a few Questions about insignia placment. I am replicating a PFC in the 91st infantry division in under the 5th army. What I dont know is what patches I need. All I have right now is insigna. Which patches go where? there is the unit pine tree patch, 5th army patch, Rank chevrons. I dont know what else might be missing but I have realy no clue as to where to put these patches. Any help would be very helpfull

as a PFC, you would wear the 91st infantry patch on your LEFT shoulder, about a half inch below the seam. I have been told to use a dollar bill length-wise from the shoulder seam an that would be where you put the PFC chevrons. BUT, I have seen a number of photos where the chevrons were worn higher up, almost touching the division patch. I believe that the 5th Army patch would be worn onthe left shoulder of someone who was higher up in headquarters of the Army group....

Infantry divisions were bounced from army to army throughout the war. Hence they rarely wore a patch from any army they were assigned to. As stated above the folks wearing a 5th Army patch would be the people who were intrinsic to the Army headquarters and permanently attached elements. It's possible you could have the 5th Army on your right sleave with the 91st on your left which would indicate prior assignment to the 5th Army while in prolonged combat.
