What a bunch of guys throwing weapons down and running away would be fun to reenact? Later insulting one another and later still insulting their liberators! That doesn't sound like a fun renactment at all but I bet the food would be good.

Yay! Ok bad joke time!!!
What is the most important part of a french tank???
The rear view mirror!!!
Ok, again again!
What is the only thing that works in a french tank *of course other than the mirror
Reverse!!!

even though i dont think much of the french military, they do have one of the worlds leading main battle tanks (other than the US m1a1 and german leopard) , its called something like the"Leclerc"

Isn't there the (kind of)new British tank, the challenger 2, that is probably recognized as the best tank in the world at the moment?

Yeah, they have the challenger 2, but I still think the US M1A2 is the best,or they're equall, who knows

Just curious, how would a tank tell where its going when it is driving in reverse..... Do they even have reverse?

Post by howitzer on Jun 12, 2006 20:21:36 GMT -5
Tanks do have reverse gears. I assume that the modern tanks use a GPS system to tell where its going in reverse and I equally assume that earlier tanks (before GPS) just used the commander to give directions in reverse.

reverse is critical for a tank, and you visibility is crap to begin with so driving back wards is not very difficult German armored cars, actually have an secondary seat with steering wheel for driving backwards! -Gordak

The British developed the chobam armor which is a series of layers of ceramics and depleted uranium that resulted in the near indestructibility of their Challenger and our Abrahms tank. Without this design (or something like it) tanks were about to become the dinosaurs of the battlefield and following the results of the 1973 Yom Kipper war it appeared they were. Anti tank weapons had become so lethal and accurate that tanks looked to be passe. Chobam armor and other refinements changed everything (until the next Infantry development) And tanks are once again the reighning lords of the battlefield.

kind of off topic, but how difficult would it be to convert an existing airsoft gun into a MAS-38 en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MAS-38it looks like a bit of a hodgepodge, but what existing airsoft gun would even come close to being comprable? and would it even be possible to build this?

Why on earth would you want to? Obscure gun by an ineffective army at a bizarre point in history and ugly on top of everything else. God thats an ugly gun! A citroen of sub machine guns!
Like any conversion or custom gun the answer is: If custom guns were easy they wouldn't be $1,000.00 plus dollars. So how hard would it be. Well how hard is it to build a custom gun? Custom guns are hard. Unless you're absolutely dedicated to building a one off and putting in the time, expense and inevitable fits, starts dissapointments and energy I don't recommend you even think about it.

What exactly do you mean by "Citroen" of sub machine guns? The Citroen "D" you are probably refering to is often considered one of the best looking cars ever made!! Although here in the states it has also been called the ugliest. Definetly one of the most inovative cars ever produced and way ahead of its time when it was launched in the mid 50's

French impression? Get some uniforms. No equipment or guns needed. Just a white flag.
ALso the best tank is the Leopard 2. "Deutchland, Deutchland uber Alles...." Also in combat when they had to reverse, they reversed! It didn't matter if there was a house there, friendly soldier or a tree. They went trough everything they could.
And yes the old Citroens are ugly pieces of feces. Altough they were OK.

The 30s Citroen was nice looking after that uhhhhhhhhhggggggly! Innovative of course but uuuuuuuggggggllllllyyyyyyy! I had a friend in the 60s in ROTC who had a Citroenthat had a hydrapneumatic suspension that could be raised or lowered automatically. When we went on FTXs he'd bring the car and raise it up when driving in fields. I must admit that was kinda cool and it cruised down I-5 very nicely but the car did not get him laid!
Come to think of it being in ROTC in the 60s probably had more to do with it.

LOL 2ndbat, very funny! the Citreon traction avant was made right up into the 50s, and they cost like 4 grand now, all you need to do is paint them and you have a very authentic looking ww2 german staff car!
about the French
Take it easy on the French folks, there is alot of controversy over that summer of 1940,
If your ally removed 300 thousand troops from your front line, and sank your fleet without warning just so the enemy might not capture any ships, you would be pretty disgusted with fighting any longer too. -Gordak

well the French knew it was gonna hapen, they built a system of bunkers called the maginot line around Germany and France. The Germans just went around through Belgium LOL!

I think it is incorrect to assume that the Maginot Line was a failure. In fact, the sections that were attacked by the Germans held up very well. The Line was an excellent idea and performed well, but it was the French strategic misuse of the Line led to the Line's infamous history.
