I heard that some Tanker coveralls were issued to normal infantrymen. Is this true? I have only seen USMC camo tanker coveralls that were used by infantry.

I think it was issued, but as Zac explained, the dye was faulty and the color would change under the sun, so soldiers didn't wear it, whereas in the tank, you aren't exposed to the sun as much, so tankers used it. And of course there is the rumor of freindly fire, but that wasn't the reason it was trashed. there are a few threads that continue this conversation.

No, I meant regular good ol' HBT. Not the camo.

Members of the 7th Naval Beach Btln. wore tanker coveralls & jump boots during the D-Day landings. Coveralls were unpopular among the infantry due to the fact that you had to completely disrobe in order to go "Number 2".

Coveralls were unpopular among the infantry due to the fact that you had to completely disrobe in order to go "Number 2". especially when you had any of the numerous tropical intestinal bugs..... that and the fact that the first one-piece,camo "jungle" suits were made with built in load bearing straps inside of the suit that were really annoying when wearing it.you dont see alot of infantry wearing them in period pics.....though i have seen OD coveralls on armored infantrymen.

Coverall were pretty much limited to Tankers and mechanics. There was a coverall jump suit for airborne issued pre-war and stateside but not for use in the field in a combat zone.
