Hello to all, I am making a PPS-42 submachinegun soon, and need a little help here. I have some dimensions but do not have much technical information on the airsoft guns, I am thinking either V2 or V5 gearbox and using standard MP5 magazines, would these be right size? Also, for the fold stock would the stock from an MP40 be okay to use? I am planning on using sheet metal to construct, but some parts may be PVC cut as well, though I guarantee metal heat shield and muzzle brake

I am thinking of using an MP40 to create the gun, and then run it off MP5 magazines. I'll try to weld or attach some sheet metal to the folding stock because the PPS stock looks fatter than the MP40 stock. Then I'll have to modify the front end of the gun to accomodate the heat shield. All in all seems pretty easy.

But I'm making a PPS-42, and I know I have inferior experience in the custom build of rifles, they don't look similar. I have opened very few gearboxes up, or guns for that matter, so if someone could help me as I build this first PPS I'd be very grateful EDIT: I also am considering buying the PPS parts kit as seen here: www.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/PPS-43-Parts-Kit.aspx?a=359283&kwtid=250969Could I make one based off those RS parts?

I see, then use a small AEP gearbox, the MP40 is way to big

I hope AEP gearbox will work, maybe the Marui UZI gearbox? It'll probably be expensive but is the only good gearbox I know of that could work. EDIT: Just did a quick check on gearboxes, and the CA 249 gearbox looks slim, but it may be just the pic, how big are they in reality? DOUBLE EDIT: Wow, I need to gather thoughts better but anyways, I completely forgot that the PPS-42/43 was a full auto/safety gun only, can I disable the semi auto on the 249/Uzi gearbox (depending on what I use)?

Oh wow, I feel rather accomplished, just dug through a flea market stand selling all sorts of militaria and found a Ushanka, appears to be A post-war Bulgarian copy, but it looks authentic. It'll go great with my custom PPS and my other 2 ushankas XD in other news I still have no idea on gearboxes, if someone like SgtTom or biged or some customs guru wuld pop in and give me some brilliant idea... *wink*

The m249 box is about 5" x 9", no way and Uzi box is plastic and hard to find. This will be a tough build

Dang... hmm. I'll have to think about this one MP5K gearbox? Skorpion gearbox? Uzi gearbox?

I suggest you find or draw up a full scale PPs so you can determine what fits

Can anyone find me dimensions on the gun? All I can find is the overall length of the gun with the stock folded/unfolded

The problem with the PPS is that it's real skinny. And because it has no stock, an m14 gearbox wouldn't work. If you use real steel parts or real steel dimensions, your only option would be to use an AEP gearbox (Glock, scorpion, etc) or go gas. Personally, i'd go with gas, but you'l have to tote around a tank and regulator. But if you really want to make an PPS AEG, you could make a larger replica that looks like it to fit a Sten Gearbox, maybe even an AK gearbox. It will be way larger than real steel though. Again, if i were to build this, i's make it a gas gun and run it on regulated CO2.

yeah, throw the guts of an asahi sterling into it, it would fit, so would the banana mags. the only down part is having to wear an airtank on your belt to power it. -Gordak

That, or if you wanted to, go with the good old gas in the magazine MP5K from Well or Maruzen, though it would take some serious modifications to get it all to fit and work.

Sorry guys, but I think I may have to forgo making a PPS for now. I do want to get into the customs area, but start of with something a bit easier. I hope this doesn't ruin my reputation, but I may try making a springer Arisaka, or something rather creative. Theres a pretty much open market in Japanese things as well as some holes in German/US weaponry that I could try my hand at, so maybe this thread will bounce back later with some real progress.

Go for a springer Arisaka, I think you could get a lot of orders if you offered that. A couple of people have asked me to make one I just don't have the time.

Ill definately try. I was doing some research on Japanese weapons found out about the Type 99 mine as well, it was an interesting mine/hand grenade/satchel charge that they used that had magnets around the base so it could be stacked with another, I may make some cheapo replicas of them with sheet metal and canvas. Pretty cool, easy peice of history.

Whats the common converted rifle, the AGM MP001? If so, how do you go abouts removing the railed top?

I use the JG BAR-10 it is known to be a bit better and shoots a higher FPS out of the box.

Well seeing as I'm dirt, dirt poor, would the TSD Tactical SD700 be a better compromise? The 135 BAR-10 is a bit out of budget, maybe once I sell the first arisaka or two (if I do *prays*)

You can get them for $100 off Airsoft GI with free shipping. But if you can't afford it the others brands work fine. But yea I don't think you will have trouble selling them.

Awesome, now I don't wanna 'trick' people into a PPS thread since we're talking about the Arisaka, so could a moderator lock this please? I'll make an arisaka thread hopefully within the month or so.

I know this has turned into a thread about making an Arisaka, but having attempted (and so far failed) at making a PPS-43, here's some fun tidbits: -AEP gearboxes don't fit. I tried one from a MP7, and it's considerably too tall to fit in the receiver. With that, I'm kind of doubting any gearbox is going to fit in here. The width of an AEP gearbox barely fits in there, and the height of it does not. I personally can't think of a smaller gearbox. As has been suggested, I think that putting an old BV system in there would be your best bet. You can pick up an old Asahi MP40 or other fun little guns like that for $100 to $200 over on classicairsoft.net. Eventually I plan on doing something similar with the kit I have, but for now, I just have some nifty looking PPS-43 parts. Hope this helps!
