A couple of nights ago I was watching Band Of Brothers and I saw one of the guys with a M1 Carbine kill a German scout and took his luger. I was wondering if you can have a set up with a M1 Carbine and have a luger as a side arm instead of 1911a1. And if I did that would I still be able to go to a professional WWII game.

Not really. The last thing you want is 20 guys in a US unit with Lugers in their holsters. When they were captured they were trophies. The GIs would not throw away their M1911.

Keep in mind the average GI was not issued a side arm. It seems to be an unfortunate carry over from modern airsofting, that everyone seems to think they need a 1911 as a side arm. Of course a GI would try and aquire a side arm any way they could as it was that added layer of protection, so I would say, yes, go for it, as it seems as you're not part of any unit, I don't think you'll be influencing anyone into thinking that they need a luger too.

correct me if im wrong, but if this is the part of B.O.B where Pvt. Hoobler shoots the German officer on horseback in the woods outside of Foy, than hes carrying an M1 Garand, not a carbine.

yes, but thats a different episode, hes talking about Market Garden, not The Battle of the Bulge, one guy was looking for a lugger, but hoobler found one, when hoobler shot himself and died, an officer took the weapon and later on gave it to the soldier looking for it since D-Day. It was to cheer him up since his friends were hit with mortars and his one friend was taken off the line.

Hoobler did use the Garand to get the Luger. Lipton then had it after it killed Hoobler.
Lipton then gave it to Mularkey, after Muck and Penkala were killed when a mortar hit their foxhole to cheer him up.
And, no offense to Nimlas, but what does the fact that B.O.B is not perfect have anything to do with this question?
He said that he was watching Band of Brothers and a guy shot a scout and got a Luger. Then he asked the people on the boards if it would be acceptable to play with an American rifle, and a German pistol.
I understand that the mini series is not actual footage, but I know for a fact that Americans killed Germans and took their Lugers, it was not an all to uncommon series of events.

Yes, not uncommon. But, should we base our impressions of of the Television programs? NO.
Cause, then were would we be? WIth such movies as SS Doomtrooper, we would be pretty much screwed.
Base it off actual accounts (this one was ok, cause it was fairly common) NOT of the TV

That is my only point. I understand the complaint, and I dont mean to offend, but this was not a good time to bring out that complaint.
It really didnt fit the situation, and it just didnt really make sense.

im not saying go with the TV series, i was correcting his statement about BOB, and also its not like SS Doomtrooper, atleast its pretty accurate, no need to bust on BOB, its a good series and just became a trend for the ww2aa, and the orginals bust on the noobies for wanting to be in the 101st

Spector read the first post,
hehhe Nimlas is suffering from "tired of BOB" syndrome. BUT! we all have to acknowlege what BOB and SPR has done for our hobby, its awesome!
Ive seen pictures were 8 GIs at once are showing off their Lugers ands p38s. If you could get a luger, you would carry it, until you get wounded or gamble it away. -Gordak

very true, Saving Private Ryan and Band of Brothers did make ww2 airsofting pretty big, you see more ww2 guns out of stock now, rather than having m4's out of stock, and its all out of fun and love for the sport of airsoft, and to respect our alders who fought in ww2

Damn right I'm tired of BOB!
Now every twelve year old kid that goes out and buys a DVD sets thinks the's a total WWII knowledge bucket. It's great that it gets people into the hobby, but Hollywood is all about the pretty pictures, not the information behind it. Books are much more reliable, yay for books!

I think Nimlas was right to make his comment about BOB. If the question had been solely about BOB, that would have been a totally different story. BUT, he asked if he could go into the field based on something he saw on BOB, and that always warrants a reminder that BOB is just Hollywood - nothing more than that.....

I saw that the the Germans had concentration camps on BOB ;D It's a joke about not being able to reference BOB for anything guys don't get all bent on it.... These guys are quite correct in you have to be careful to base soemthing you see in a movie or on television with being historically correct. Directors will and do take lots of shortcuts and are not making historical documetaries they are making movies to sell tickets...

Though not 100% accurate by any means SPR and especially the BoB series went to great lengths to be far more authentic then any popular movie I've ever seen on WW2. It certainly shouldn't be used as the end all be all source for authenticity but I would put its accuracy at 95% and would kill to see 30 participants at my next ww2 airsoft event that looked 3/4rs as good. Both in appearance and movement.
