did the airborne use wooden stocks on the m1 carbine, or only the paratrooper folding stock, in BOB, which i know everyone will hate me for this, i saw a LT carry one when he came in with webster, he later got a thompson since he was high ranking, but like was that just a fill in weapon, or did the 101st really use the wooden stock also.
my second question is from the game brothers in arms 3, they have a R over their spaid on their m1 helmets, im guessing it stands for recon, but like how can you changed your symbol, like was there a recon in the 101st, im not really historical and i was woundering if you guys could fill me in
thanks again

well for one thing there are always exceptions. and dont feel bad for mentioning bob because we've all had our "on band of brothers i've seen...". id say about 99.9% didnt have a full stock carbine but you could argue until your blue in the face whether it could be correct. as for the R on the helmets i do not no. something tells me based on the reliability of video games that there wasnt one. also i dont really see why there would be a designated recon insignia especially for paratroopers because when they drop every direction is the front. but hell i could always be wrong.

Excellent photo's Gordak!
The R must stand for, read, or Remember, or Ranger, or reallyawesome. I know they had them because I've seen that game too!
But my all time FAVORITE refrence is SS doomtrooper, I can't wait until it's realeased on DVD. I watch it whenever I have a historical question.

I have seen pictures of solid stock carbines in use with the airborne, it probably happened more late in the war, but was Very rare, like Screamineagle said, 99.9% wire stock.
for this hobby, use the full stock until you can afford the cool para one. -Gordak

did anyone ever make an AEG carbine? Not that I know of, the thing is just too small to fit a gear box and motor in it, but I bet Schmitty could do it! ;D

aside from customs no. i think that a blowback version m2 is coming out soon (to put it very loosely) so you might want to wait for that

Having personally shot Gordak's AEG M3 Grease Gun I must say, it's much cooler than the gas one. It's a BB hose. I beleive he used Marui P90 guts. The battery doesn't fit in the gun, but is duct taped to the sling. Anyway it's not a job for the faint of heart, I'm still amazed Gordak did it.
As for the FPS, all stock marui guns will shoot about the same, in the 270 to 285 range.

Schmitty placed the battery permanently inside the pistol grip of the Greser AEG he built. It's a mini but it lasted all weekend long at the Gothic Line on a single charge and perhaps 7 or 800 rounds went through it. It worked awesome
The "R" on the 101st helmet represented the RECON company for the Division (Pathfinders) and was placed where the spade, heart, club or Diamond for the Regiments would have gone. In addition the engineers had a castle, artillery had a ball etc. Since the line regiments represented the bulk of the forces in a airborne division involved in action shots their the symbols you'd most likely see. The RECON pathfinder element was a very small detachment so the R would have been quite rare.
