If you're going to go for regular infantry you should go Marine Corps like I am.

Or, go for what you feel like? It's you that has to live with your choice, not your online peers.

Definitely look into ROTC. It's a great program and pays for your schooling if you do decide to enter the military

I have been thinking about joining for a long time and talked to my dentis who is a Lt Col in the army and he gets deployed regularly and he said the army was the best choice he ever made. He was a Sgt for one deployment then he went to Officer Candidate school served one voluntary deployment then went to airborne school if I remember correctly then to green Barrett school and all the wile gaining rank and serving tours and voluntary tours
I think my plan is to finish high school then go into the army serve a tour then go to officer candidate school then airborne school then ranger school and I think I'm going to be a lifer like Lt Col Lieberman
Lt Col Lieberman has such stories that just make you think like this one time he was in a convoy in Iraq and his lead hummer got hit and killed the platoons surgeon and he was the only one in the platoon that had any medical experience so he had to take a bullet out of a guys neck and amputate a guys hand and he showed me pictures of it it was really nasty but he found lots helmets that looked like stalhelms (idk how to spell it sorry) in a cave he had a picture of them and lots of other stuff. We talked for a good 2 or 3 hours about the army and marines he said if I want to be a rifleman and thats it go to the marines but if you want to be more than just a grunt go army. He likes the marines he said he did alot of work with them.
But I want to be in the fighting. Don't get me wrong I just want to serve my country. Does anyone know where the army is getting deployed nowadays is it more Iraq or Afghanistan?

Oh and my cousins boyfriend was in the 82nd airborne I think they are going to get married but he had a metal wristband that says Sgt. (I cant remember the guys name) RIP and when I asked him who he was he said that he was his Squad leader and he was killed in an IED and the bracelet was made out of the inside panel of the hummers passenger side door he was in and everyone that was in his squad got one then his eyes watered up and I felt really bad but he kept talking to me about the airborne and and stuff hes a really cool guy and I wish I could talk to him more He was a Clp when the bomb went off and he was then promoted to Sgt. His name is Sgt. Brandon Parker

I think my plan is to finish high school then go into the army serve a tour then go to officer candidate school The possibility of you getting into OCS without a degree or numerous years of experience these days is quite small. You'd best get a degree first, and at the same time get into top physical shape. On an unrelated note, you might be able to enlist and be promoted one rank just by having a certain amount of college credits. On a related note, I think this is stupid: www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/us_and_americas/article7066220.ece

Ok, that seems like a sound decision, plus then the government will assist you with some college funds.

If you go infantry you WILL be deployed to the sandbox.Numerous times. I was like you,i wanted the action, hence joining the infantry and the 101st. Lucky/unlucky for me,there wasn't muchj going on when I was in except in Central America, and Somalia, where I deployed. It was a great experience that i miss to this day. I also was in armor, which was also a blast. Its your decision, do what you really want and don't let the recruiter talk you into anything you don't want.

If (and more likely when) you get deployed, you are more likely to end up in Afghanistan these days than in Iraq. We are beginning to withdraw our troops from Iraq, and by the end of 2011 it is supposed to be down to an adviser force of around 10,000. As of now, if you go Marines, you're looking at ending up in Helmand Province, and Army would be most likely Kandahar. I don't believe you said when you were going to enlist, but by the time you are eligible for deployment both wars will have changed a great deal. Training takes a very long time, in the Marine Corps you go through 13 weeks of boot camp (we don't call it basic training), then 59 days of combat training (29 for non-infantry MOS's) then you go to MOS training, and finally you get to your unit, and then you have to wait to get deployed. So by that point we may be involved in another country (I'm expecting something to go down with Yemen sometime soon). But come to a decision soon about what branch you want to be in, and then contact a recruiter ASAP.

Ok thanks for all the help guys I think its really early to talk to a recruiter I'm finishing 8th grade right now so I have a long time to choose but in high school I'm going to be in Jr ROTC which will be cool and give me a small taste of the Military so in 2014 is when I will enlist. Are there any workout routines that will help me prepare. I want to be as ready as I can.

Well, there are a few things, i like this article, as it rings true, there are no weights at bootcamp; www.stewsmith.com/linkpages/noweightatboot.htmStew Smith has a lot of good articles, just pointing that out Also, though this is just my thoughts, i would combine high rep/to failure exercises (pull up, push up, etc.) with weight training, steady state cardio and HIIT workouts, because if you combine the four, you have a recipe for success. The pushups/pullups/situps/other "to failure" items help you build muscular endurance (useful for crawling, holding your gun, hitting the dirt/getting back up again and again), HIIT helps with explosiveness (sprinting from building to building), steady state cardio gets you ready for long marches, and weight training gives you low rep power (useful for moving obstacles, etc.) Also, for the steady state cardio, don't just do straight running, also include stair running, hill running, biking (helps with stair and/or hill running) (i like stationary ones) and swimming (use different strokes, helps with building arm endurance to allow you to not get as tired holding a gun all day) because in the military, you wont only be marching on flat ground. By no means is this exhaustive (i don't feel like giving an entire writeup ;D), but hopefully it helps

If you go to Helmand, be ready for a fight - that's where our boys and girls are, and it's not quite a walk in the park.

I say you go tanker, you get to drive a tank ;D, you get to hear the beautiful sounds of the tank, and there is less chance you get hit or killed .

I say you go tanker, you get to drive a tank ;D, you get to hear the beautiful sounds of the tank, and there is less chance you get hit or killed . if you are going with that, why not go airforce? Then you get to fly jets, which is sweet (or UAV's, which is cool in the fact that you don't even necessarily have to go over to the mideast) Other than that, also, don't forget proper nutrition and rest times! You'll need protein to build muscle, and carbohydrates to refuel your body, and don't forget healthy fats as well. (And look up more on nutrition if you so desire) As for working out, more is not always better, especially just starting out. Working out with some muscle soreness is ok, but if its really painful, take a day off to recover. Also, generally give your muscles ~48 hours to recover (so that would mean every other day), more if you work them hard, otherwise you will end up sabotaging your gains by not giving your muscles a chance to repair and grow. It helps to do different things different days, like upper body+a little cardio one day, lower body+cardio the next and repeat. Obviously, customize to your goals and liking, but that's just to hopefully prevent you from making the beginning mistake of doing too much and getting nowhere.

What do you wanna do in the Army? I wanted to meet interesting and stimulating people of an ancient culture... and kill them. I wanted to be the first kid on my block to get a confirmed kill!
