In this limited weapons(AEG/GAS) area what can be substituted for weapons from the era?
Example
M-14 = BAR(til it comes out) M700 = Springfield '03 M249 = MG42
and so on.. would make getting more people involved til they either get what they need or the makers make the correct weapons.

AKs or CA33s can be MP44s M700 or any other bolt action rifle could be Mauser Kar98s

Couldn't an M-14 be used as an M-1 or M1 Carbine, since they both look similar to the M-14, and are pretty much the same gun?

It would seem so, but I would use an m14 for a BAR if one had a bipod on it. Other than that, yeah, use it as an m1, not nessacarily as a carbine though, it's a bit long doncha think?

Well since it has a clip on it, it looks a lot like the carbine.

An M14 dwarfs the carbine. It's atleast 2 times the size. Infact, they're axact oposites. The M14 is a big, heavy, accurate rifle. The carbine is a small, light, PDW type weapon. The M14 wouldn't make for an accurate representation for a few reasons. Besides, the Marushin carbine is only$250....
MY whole feeling on "stand ins" is that if the features of the stand in and it's WWII counterpart are similar, it's OK. Mag restrictions are a good idea as well. Now as soon as you've had a few WWII games, you have to start cracking down on historical accuracy, and always try to move forward.
Oh and Wade, It's a magazine, it'd be a clip if we were talking about an M1, k98, or springfeild, as clips go IN the gun.

ahh thank you nimlas, not too be too hard on ya wade but hes right. It's the typical reenactor's #1 pet peeve. haha aside from those darn FARB's. dont worry, we all make mistakes. Another big difference is that a m-14 was a 7.62 and has much different ballistics than a carbine. I think its a good stand in for either a garand or BAR for thier different reasons

Well with there only being a couple of us in St.Louis trying to get this started we'll have to make due. Naplam is planning a game for Dec, and the plan is to have all long arms(M-16/G-series/and anyother"long" arm) use semi only. The one M-14 running around would be a BAR, and thought about ok-ing AK's as '44. All subguns would be able to fire full auto. And the few SAW's would be in fixed possitions only. All would have limited BB's. We also break down teams by uniform(light/dark) to help seperate and define rolls.
Any comments would help. Its going to be a slow getting people involved but I believe it'll catch on. Hell we did a Russian style of play once and they liked it.

Great start! The BAR was often fielded without the BiPod but a bipod is a great way to identify and somewhat restrict it on the field. Another good idea to encourage more movement toward authentic weapons is to make all random non WW2 specific guns fire semi auto. (MP5s, M-16s G36s, AKs etc) Allow the folks with Thompsons, MP-40s and designated M-14 folks with a bipod fire fully auto. That is of course until a BAR becomes readily available and affordable.
Bolt actio n rifles of any ilk should be encouraged as the rates of fire and motion is just so WW2ish! Especially for the Germans. Limited mag capacity is huge as well.
