TG, I believe I have solved the mystery of the uniform though use of my superior google-foo skills I am betting 5 of your dollars that what you have: Is actually a battlefield (or barracks more likely) combination of this: With this: So my theory is, someone was issued a P44 jacket, wasn't happy with the fact that they lost the bottom pockets and very similar to what we see in many M42 Paratroop jackets, simply added pockets from other HBT material. Sort of a 'Rigger's P44' if you will. If my hypothesis is accurate, then not only do you have a vintage USMC jacket, you have a 'purpose modified' fatigue, which is more valuable I would imagine. Either way, don't let me catch you wearing that on the field troop- It's too valuable Let's see if any of our other experts can validate my theory Check this site out: www.wwiiimpressions.com/usmc.html-G

In my loudest voice ever.......YEAH yay, yay, yay,............wait, what was a P44 used for?
Oh and trust me, I would never, ever wear an original USMC anything, they are far to valuable to wear.

The WW2 counterpart the P44 had the flap over the top too, plus its dated 43.

Hello, Really nice jacket there. It is not WW2 though, my guess is korea or post war. The 43 date you have on it is wrong, either you are not reading it clearly or someone faked it. The P44 (or Patter 44 which referred to the M1944 HBTs) were not issued to pacific theatre combat marines they were developed too late in the war (Both Dungarees and Frog Skins and Grunt Gear are saying this). The earliest any collectors have seen is apparently 1945 dates-none of these guys have ever seen a 1944 date! If the second number in your date is blurry or faded it could be a 1945 issue but chances of it seeing deployment in the Pacific is very unlikely. Saying all of this- I would like to congrat you on a good buy-any HBTs for 20.00 is worth it. Wear it with pride! Semper Fi.

You should ask the guy you bought it from where he got it from.

I did a double check and I thought it was strange when I say 43 but really did take too much of a closer look, so today I got out the flashlight and a magnifyer glas to see it more clearly and since there is a curved bottom to the last number it must be dated 45.

Rock on then, sounds like a good set of P44s with a little field modification done to it. Probably not used in WW2 but following, however there was ALOT of clean up action there by all services, just cause the govt. of imperial japan surrendered does not mean that everyone stopped fighting. The Dutch East Indies were hell from 47-51 as we assisted the Dutch Marines to remove japs and quell civil war there. oo-rah gunner.
