Since winter is coming around I have decided to do an Aleutian Islands Campaign impression. I am planning on doing 7th Infantry Division impression. I have been doing alot of research on them. I was wondering since they were attached to the alaskan defence corps how would I wear my insignia? Would they wear the 7th ID patch on one arm and the ADC patch on the other? I have seen pictures of men in their class A's and they wore the 7th ID patch on their right arm and the ADC batch on the left. Is this how I would wear them in combet? Thanks.

most of the pics and footage i've gone through shows them wearing the kiska task force "knife" patch on either shoulder or sometimes both on their field uniforms...heres some out shots from "the color of war".. they weren't attached to the ADC very long..long enough to land on attu and help on kiska...then in sept. of '43 they went to hawaii for training for the Kwajalein landings.. www.carson.army.mil/UNITS/F7ID/F7ID_History.htm

The left shoulder patch designated a unit you are attached to. The right shoulder designated a unit you were attached to during a combat campaign. The folks who landed at Kiska would be eligible to wear the unit patch on the right shoulder no matter what subsequent unit they might be assigned to.
I recall the Alaska command as a bold polar bear head on a field of dark blue with a North star above but frankly that might be post war. My dad was stationed in Alaska from 1954 to 1956 and he wore the Polar Bear patch. I was stationed there following SE Asia in 1973 to 1974 and was assigned to the 172nd Arctic Infantry Brigade (Northstar and mountains patch)but the Post cadre all had the Polar bear patch as did the National Guard units. I saw a display at their museum that showed over a dozen variations of the polar Bear patch.
Was that not a WW2 era patch?

I am doing an attu infantryman impression. So I shoud wear the 7th ID patch on my left arm and the polar bear patch (this is correct it isn't postwar) on my right arm?

If you intend your impression to represent a post action impression with your character still in the 7th Army that would be correct

No I guess I will put a screaming eagle patch on it. It's not incorrect. They did it in Band of Brothers. Joking. I have been looking at pics and can't find any that show a good pic of their insignia.

Keep looking, that's all you can do. I'll look in some of my books to see if there are any pictures.

As for your impression, this might help: vilda.alaska.edu/cgi-bin/queryresults.exe?CISOROOT=/cdmg11&CISOFIELD1=descri&CISOBOX1=Attu&CISORESTMP=&CISOVIEWTMP=&CISOMODE=gridAs far as I can tell, most of them have no insignia at all on their arctic field jackets. I think I may have seen one guy in those pictures who was wearing the Kiska TF patch, but im not sure, the image quality was poor. So I would say slick sleeve would probably be best, but if anything along with Savoy6's research, I'd say wear the Kiska "knife" patch.
