On identification paperwork, next to Grade there is the abbreviation Asn. What does this stand for?

There is an army serial number generator where you type in your favorite number or somthing and it generates some numbers. I'll try to find it.

It's at hardscrabble. I am just going to usemy grandfathers army Serial number, since most of my impression is based off of him. Oh! Hey, this is as good a time to ask as any, if someone were a forward observer during the battle of the buldge, specializing in Trigonometry used to pin point artillery positions, what weapon would they have used? What rank would they be?

They probably would have been an artillery branched commissioned officer or NCO. (2nd Lt. staff sgt, or tech sgt.) In the US army they would have refered to him as an FO (Forward Observer) Brass Crossed cannons on your left collar and your butter bar on your right. Better still insignia removed when in the field.

My Great Uncle was a radioman on an FO team. He carried a carbine, I think his Lt. did too. I'll ask the next time I see him.

Anyone know what units of artillery were in the buldge? THe only records I have ever been able to track down of his are his enlistment records, and that shows him as coming into the army through New York.
