If the outer barrel from the spring M14 will work with your Aftermath then yeah you should be able to do it. The biggest problem I've found is getting a hold of the M1 parts to put on my M14 for a price I can afford.

You really don't want to go through the time and expense acquiring the neccessary parts and then putting in the effort and time doing the conversion if you're going to end up with a cheap springer that wouldn't compete in a skirmish or be semi auto. The cost of a decent chinese clone AEG is not that much greater and the end result we be so much nicer.
Obviously folks are free to do whatever they'd like but since you asked in my opinion it would be really really really dumb!

50,000 is an exaggeration but not by much. If you are genuinely interested there are multiple threads on this very subject arcived throughout the forums. Any of the clone M14s would be better than building on a springer since the effort and expense is fairly substantial.
The Cyma 032 M14 is in my opinion the best value although the AGM M14 is quite good as well. It seems like the AGMs go for around $125.00 and the Cyma around 150.00 or so. Be sure you get the full length version.
The actual Garand parts at a bare minimum that you'll need are the two wood handguards with hardware and the complete gas assembly. These parts will typically run you $135.00 to $150.00 although you can sometimes get lucky and find them for less.
An easier route is to save up and buy one the many homebuilt ones or 2nd Bat used ones that periodically come up for sale. People often sell them for about what the materials alone would cost or slightly more.
My brand new, complete conversions start at $425.00 These include the fully modified lower stocks which most of the homebuilts and none of the early 2nd Bat rifles do not have.

In the for sale section Hairyapple is selling an AGM based one for $280 which is a really good deal. I agree with 2nd Bat on the CYMA, its the best clone M14 available right now, although they can be hard to find sometimes.

I agree that the Hairey Apple conversion at $280.00 is an incredible almost rediculous buy and don't know why he doesn't just stick it on Ebay where I am confident it would bid up to $400 plus!
He did a real nice job on it. When you have the whole world bidding on an item the prices can sometimes get incredible.

I hate to piss on your Wheaties but truthfully if you're concerned about how you would go about the minimal disassembly required on the M14 to do the conversion, odds are you shouldn't take on this otherwise fairly straightforward conversion. Buy someones used one and save yourself the year SGTTOM spent not getting his done. You don't need to do anything with the gearbox and disassembly consist of simply seprating the main assembly from the stock and removinf some fundamental components. (hex wrench and screw driver stuff) There is one two inch cut on the stock with a hack saw or dremel.
Again be sure you use a full length M14 not the SOCOM version.

Yea definitely be shy of used guns. I also suggest you not mess with the gearbox and never remove anything thinking it is useless, I have done that a lot later to find the part was essential. It would be a good idea to take the gun to someone experienced to have it cleaned and shimmed.
