Im doing an 82nd airborne 504th PIR impression and i was wondering what type of SMG pouch i should use. The smg rigger pouch, smg bag, or thompson 5 cell with the magazines sticking out cuz i converted one of my thompson magazines to a 20 round size but idk if i want to do it to all of mine so i mite stick with the basic 30 round magazine. What would be most accurate for my i Ok about helmet nets. I have a 3/4 od#3 net, 3/4 od #7 net, 1/4 inch small net, and 2 inch net. Which one would be the most accurate.
Another question, was helmet scrim used before Normandy? Did the 82nd ever where scrim during Normandy with the 3/4 inch net or did they just 1/4 small squares net.

no net. Most pre-normandy invasion guys would have no net. But If you really want one, use the 1/4 inch. Also, for pre-normandy, throw the skull and crossbones on the sides. either Blue, red, yellow, or white, depending on Battalion. Ie: Red - 1st, Yellow - 2nd, Blue - 3rd, White - HQ. I would use an Smg bag, or 5-cell. And for the helmet scrim, The 82nd didn't use it extensively, until Normandy.

Ill probably wont paint the skull and crossbones cuz i dont wanna ruin my original m1 helmet. Check out this picture of a paratrooper before Operation Husky with a smg rigger pouch.

i have done exclusive research on the 504 so if you need help please ask me also deacon oyur wrong , "Also for pre-normandy, throw the skull and crossbones on the sides. either Blue, red, yellow, or white, depending on Battalion. Ie: Red - 1st, Yellow - 2nd, Blue - 3rd, White " From the 504ths training in africa untill just before the market garden jump the 504 used the Egypten Aunk for their symboy, and it was Different colors, for 1st it was read, 2nd white, 3rd Yellow and hq i am not shure of, just before the Holland jump the logo changed to the skull and crossbones (No idea Why) if needed i can show pictures to this extent
Now for he thompson i would go with either the bag or the 5 cell becuase they wer both widly used as for the Schrim no go for 82nd this never occured, the helmet net was used but in differtent patterens with the 1/4th the most prevelent after D-Day
Also on a side note the 504 DID NOT jump on D-Day due to the extensive casualties that were sustained in italy, they wer pulled off the line in March of 44 and could not receave the adiquate ammount of Reinforcement for the jump so the only men that did jump on D-Day from the 504 was a pathfinder unit that was total voulentear from the differnet batallions
I hope this helps and again if you need any help please pm me

From what I heard from a WWII 504th reenactor/historian, who was in the 504th in the 80's, was that the Ankh Symbol was for a sub-unit of the 504, and the skull and crossbones were used as labeled... Red - 1st, Yellow - 2nd, Blue - 3rd, White - HQ. I myself am not that into the 504th, I research the 505th, and 505th pathfinders, so I may be wrong, I'm just going by what the historian said. But I think Mccallion is right about the Ankh usage in sicily. There are a few photos floating around that show the Ankh on 504th troopers helmets. There aren't very many photos of 504 guys with helmet insignia though. I think I read somewhere that Gavin didn't like the markings at all, therefore they weren't very common. But in this case mastermike95, I would not paint one on.

If I am not mistaken, my book "Finding Your Fathers War", it states that the 1st battalions color was red, the 2nd's was white, and 3rd's was blue. This was standard for all army units not just the 504th. I am not sure about Rgtl HQ and have never heard of yellow being used.

505th PIR – Rampant Lion or Shooting Star (with the number of tails denoting the battalion)
At one point or another this was the case... -1st Bn - An orange diamond with a black border and a black J inside -3rd Bn - Black ball with a white arrow in it - HQ - Black shield

Its just im not sure cuz it seems the gp bag was first scene in combat during Normandy, which would make me look inacurate for airsoft games taking place befor 1944.
