A while ago there was a thread talking about substitutes for WW2 weapons, one suggestion was to use the M14 as a BAR, which I thought was good idea, but that got me thinking, there are no American 30. Cals, or 50. Cals in production unlike the Mg-42 which has two producers, although there quite a bit of $ they are avilable.
I wanted to know if anything existed on the market that could be used (besides a SAW or an SMG with a highcap) in place to do the job of a 30 or 50.

Gun god Schmitty had a custom M1919A6, here's the link: hellsknightsairsoft.com/smf/index.php?topic=46.0For the .50 cal I'd wait for PPP to release theirs. I've been thinking a good substitute for an MG42 or an FG42 would be an M60, so maybe that would be a suitable sub for a M1919A6? I know that the M1919A6 was quite a heavy gun, and that it was more cumbersome than a M1919A4, but still...

I don't see any other weapons that could be used as a substitute for a M1919 or a M2 .50 Cal. I am basically the only person who ever uses Schmittys M1919A6 at the events and I tell you that thing is the most awkward weapon to use. I suppose if you take an M60 and put some more weight to it and make it so you have to connect the battery every time you want to fire it and only be able to fire from a prone position it could be used as a substitute. That's the only way I see it happening.

If you want a real simple .30 cal then a wood box of size, PVC drilled pipe and a chinese M14 will do you the job. There is enough room in a .30 cal body to put a stripped down M14, rig the trigger to a bar that pulls and put your simple bent pipe handle on (with an m14 hi-cap you have the fire capacity for the simulation). Paint black and wala, cheap, general looks, and a .30 you can use in the field until you can build a metal body to house the M14.-you will have to supply your own tripod though.

Yes can you post some pics of the supplies needed? I dont understand the Chinese m14 to a .30 cal though.

That 30cal actuall sounds very realistic, simple, and not too out there, instead of an Ariska rifle, I may try my hand at this over the summer.

Well if it wieghs as much as a real one... thats 23lbs for the barrel alone, and then i would anouth 20 for the reciever so your looking at around 40lbs, hence the tripod. Although in ww2 guys would carry them around sometimes. They would tie a rope or some type of webbing around the barrel and the back and drape it around their neck like a satchel. -Cary

For the .30 with an M14 internal bits (although you could really use any spare AEG gearbox, hop up and barrel) just take off all the bits but the airsoft parts. The .30 body is wide enough and long enough to just lay that badboy in there, a few screws across the body to hold it in and stick the barrel out the right end. Allow for a hole in the bottom to insert high capacity mags, and a mount to the trigger out the back (assuming a non-spade grip .30) finish the exterior to level of detail you like and you have a quick .30. I can post the sketches but have yet to score dimensions for the exterior bits so have not yet built the gun.

Best with rubber beyonets though! My favotrite part of a bayonet charge in an airsoft game is when all the modern guys on the other team say: "What the hell are they doing!?"

Yeah but Bayonet chrages/Bonzi charges dont work too well, as the german team can tell you from our last game here in the midwest.
Back on topic, As soon as my cash reserves replensih (after some recent major purchases), and my Thompson mag project has wrapped up Im going to be looking into creating a cheap 30cal that can be built by following instrcutions posted here on the boards.
The base of the project will center around an M-14 AEG, I have already though out the way to insert a highcap M-14 mag and also how to rig up the trigger.
Basically I will cut apart the stock from an M-14 to the length that can be fit into a 30cal body, this will mean that I will not have to fabricate anything to hold in/release the mags or line up the barrel of the gun with the bodies center or make a new trigger system, I will then install the outer barrel of the 30cal and rig up a trigger mechanism to the trigger in the back of the 30cal to pull the existing M-14 trigger.
After that I will simply add the extra details to the 30cal body to make it look lik a 30cal.
I can see this project costing $160 for the M-14 and another $40-$60 for parts to make the 30cal outer body. This is simply a rough sketch of my ideas for the project but it may become more complicated when I proceed.

You wont need to cut down the stock. The M14 disasembles so that you can just slip the trigger guard back on and lock it, and fire the gun w/o the stock. It will mostlikely be a little easier this way. Also you could then take the assembly out and use it as a normal M14. if you would like. -Cary
