Here are some cool photos of US paratroopers in ww2. Some 101st paratroopers walking by during Market Garden. If u look closely at the man standing to the right of the paratrooper with the first aid pouch on his helmet he is wearing a rigger pouch. Glider Infantry Paratroopers boarding a c-47. Notice the man standing in the door way with a tommy gun with a forward grip. Sicily 1943 Sicily 1943 The 101st during October 1944 "The Island" The 506th PIR several hours before H-hour A paratrooper with a cute puppy A paratrooper probably during Rhine Crossings. Notice the grease gun and the late war paratrooper liner chinstrap Bastogne Paratroopers stand over a knocked out Tiger tank 101st paratroopers in Normandy Five-Oh-Deuce paratroopers several hours before Operation Market Garden. Notice the man in the middle's holster and the man to the rights od#7 cartridge belt. If you have any intresting photos of US paratroopers go ahead and post'em.

That first pic of paratroopers in bastogne with the 3 troopers...the one on the left looks like he's wearing a german EM belt with a walther PP or P38 softshell holster.

Most of the paras in the sicily pics are wearing pistol belts with rigger pouches. After the Normandy drop the rigger pouchs became very scarce.

They wore them unless they where in hot weather , it's part of the uniform , nothing odd about that.

I know, I should've mentioned I was kidding, as it seems that hardly anyone's impression includes the wool shirt under. Sorry for the mix up there.

Like i said , i wear mine no matter how hot it gets , you get use to it and if you drink enough water it's not a problem.

What you have to understand is Europe is wet and cold, so wearing wools under your paratrooper jacket wouldn't be uncommon.

In the pic with the 3 502nd guys before Market-Garden, none seem to have leather chincups. Was this common?
