I am new to this forum in the past week and glad I finally found WWII airsoft. I already have an impression on its way from atthefront.com thanks to you guys for recommending and a little searching as well. Also have a 2ndBatt Springfield 1903A3 on its way next week as well.
On the note of being new though I must say some people have been very helpful and open but others have complained because people are asking questions that have already been asked in the past or haven't done the "research" that I guess new people are supposed to do before asking a question.
I just have 3 tips to you vets to allow guys like me and other noobs a chance to really grow in this "sport".
1.) If its a question that has been asked in the past and its that big of a deal to you just ignore the post, it takes more time to respond than just click back and look at a different post. As well as being new, a question from last year isn't always accurate now.
2.) Don't tell someone to google something like WWII airsoft because its like looking for the spelling of a word in the dictionary. There are a ton of sites and some are ones you shouldn't be reading or buying things from. This is why people ask on here and just don't randomly click on google links.
3.) When someone asks should I go German, US, UK, USSR, French, or anything else they don't want go with your heart as a response. Most people when coming into the sport want a great group of guys NEAR them. I can care less about recreating a French resistance member if no one within 500 miles is doing the same thing or if everyone is in the French resistance but there are no Germans within 500 miles. Remember if someone had that big of an attachment to a certain unit they wouldn't be asking for the advice.
Also, just one tip to the Admins is that we should have a Newbie forum area where general questions are asked and stickied threads for websites and basic impressions and units are. It would help the new people from annoying some of the vets who don't wish to see the same questions asked over and over.
Sorry for posting such a long message but figured i would post my thoughts on this.

Your points are noted and I'm glad you posted this because it may be helful for other new players to get better replies. The frustration from vets is that the same simple question is asked over and over again and without any detail in the question or even thread title. For example, the person is likely to get a poor reply if the question is vague like " What gun should I buy" or "Where is the best place to buy...". If the questions were asked like: " I'm interested in buying the AEG MP44, can you please tell me if this is a good gun to buy and the pros and cons and perhaps who provides the best price and sales service?" This is a good newbie detailed question and a replier can perhaps post a link to a review and retailer or give you a more specific answer because the question was specific.
Regarding "what unit should I portray?", The question should be posted again with more detail if you expect a better reply. Perhaps state your location and age in the question such as " I live in Oshkosh and want to get into WW2 airsoft with a mature team, are there any units close by and if so what do they reenact?". Again this narrows the field and an detailed answer can be given with a team forum link or one of the othe rmembers from that State can reply.
I guess what I'm saying is, a good question warrants a good reply.
Regarding a Newbie section, just about the whole board is newbie and there is a weapons boot camp section to post review questions on guns.
Thanks

Only thing I meant by a newbie area is one place to go since there are quite a few sub forums.
I understand the question thing though being more in-depth is the best way to go. This is a great forum, I just know I have been overwhelmed with all the information on here about impressions and guns as well as reading about past events to get an idea how they typically run.

When a new man enters an Infantry squad the first few weeks are generally awkward. The veterans don't know how to take the recruit. Will he last? will he fit in? Is he going to be a good sqaud member? Am I going to have to answer the same old questions over and over? Will he get in the way? The treatment a cherry got was unfair and uncalled for and in many cases down right rude.
It's human nature, which is not always a positive. Thanks for your post as it's a worthwhile heads up.

Yes, the whole necro-posting complaint is silly. Just because someone posts on an old thread people shouldn't jump on them for it. New folks want the answers that they couldn't get months ago because they weren't on the boards months ago. Not very welcoming. I just don't see what it hurts to respond to a question on an old thread. Sometimes it brings up an interesting old thread and its fun looking at it again. Kar98 building comes to mind. ;D The option is starting a new thread on the same topic and then you get multiple thread confusion. The other thing is there are new players and there are new players. Not all cut from the same cloth. Some are intelligent, and look around before asking and others come off exceedingly not so smart and are lazy and want everything handed to them. The smarter ones usually get treated better. But we could all do with some thickening of the hides around here. We're warriors of a sort and shouldn't be so easily offended all the time. Water off a duck's back should be the way we handle perceived offenses. Oh, and less moderating and less censorship and maybe even revamping the structure of the boards so they are more conducive to ramping up interest in the important aspects of airsoft, impressions, weapons and events. Everything else is sort of ancillary. Welcome aboard by the way.

Yes, I do hate those people that just tell you to look it up on google. It's hard enough finding At the Front, whilst searching for WWII repro.

I said it was hard to find ATF by searching "WWII REPRO" not knowing what ATF is. Sorry for confusing you. Hahaha, many people take my posts the wrong way, but that's okay, I get used to it.

No pitty party there, just a bit aggrivated is all, but I didn't know of ATF until I came to the forum, and then I found out that the walk in store was a two hour drive away.
