I posted this in another thread, but its apropriate for this thread too.....
Wools would be more apropriate and are pretty comfy in hot weather. here are your options:
M1 helmet and liner
wools or HBT's - the 2nd wore both the wool and/or HBT pants on D-day. Some wore the wool shirt and 41 jacket, some wore the HBT jacket over the wool shirt, some wore the HBT jacket over the wool shirt and the 41 jacket (it was 60 degrees on D-day so many guys layered their clothes) You will need a wool shirt either way. The 43 pants and jackets did come into use for the rangers later, mostly by replacements and usually after December.
Trouser belt
Rough-outs and leggings or Jump boots Most guys wore the rough outs with leggings, but D Co 2nd rangers was almost all jump boots. The double buckle boots did come into use later on in the fall, but mostly by replacements.
Haversack or Mussette - you could use either, but remember that the TO&E only called for one mussette per officer. The haversack can be a pain but there is a certain small, rectangular pillow in the crafts section of walmart that fits nicely inside a haversack and is virtually weightless. Its also handy for over night events.
1910 canteen and cover dont get the mounted cover, just the regular cover.
1910 or 1943 folding shovel and proper carrier Both were used on D-day and later by the 2nd rangers. Later on, some did cut down the handle of the 43 shovel but I dont know how common that was.
1936 pistol belt or 1923 cartridge belt If you carry the thompson or the carbine, then you would want the pistol belt with the thompson mag pouch or the carbine ammunition pouch.
First Aid pouch Always handy. You can put whatever you want in it, but I recommend a real (modern) first aid kit. you never know when you'll need it. The parachutists first aid pouch was used by both the 2nd and 5th rangers on D-day.
1938 wire cutters and carrier. Yup, the To&E calls for 68 per Ranger Co, or one per man.
M3 knife with M8 scabbard you can wear it on your belt or on your boot.
IF you want to do a FULL D-day impression: you'll need:
M3 Gas Mask and bag Worn on your chest.
B4 life vest
Assault vest
IF you want to show a little variety:
Drop the shovel and get a Pickmattock, axe or machette and carrier Get a compass & pouch and/or a TL-122 flashlight one of each was issued to every officer, 1st sgt, Ssgt, and sgt The flashlight was also issued to every Tsgt.
Gas brassard 3 per Co.
You could even go with a Tanker Jacket.
This is just a list of ideas, dont let it overwhelm you. Much of this you wont need depending on which weapon you carry and your rank. Have fun and enjoy the hobby. Use the internet and look at every ranger picture you find for ideas. I have a bunch, so let me know if you have any questions........

franz, I love the title (you rank slut. you). For units like the 2nd rangers there's probably plenty of info out there with TO&E's, photos, and all other kinds of goodies. 5thrangerinfantry gave you some very good guidlines to get a solid impression going but if you strive for ultimate perfection like me (I have a medical disorder that won't let me post pics of my impressions until even my paperwork set is complete) then you should spend more hours than any sane person would doing research to put together a top-knotch impression.

very true. I'd recommend starting with:
'The Fool Lieutenant: 'A personal account of D-day and WW2' by Marcia Moen ISBN-10 0970525737 'The Battalion: The Dramatic Story of the 2nd Ranger Battalion in World War II' by Robert W Black ISBN #0811701840 'Rangers in WW2' by Robert W Black ISBN# 0804105650 'D-day' by Stephen Ambrose ISBN #068480137X
All of these would make a great starting point. Rangers in WW2, however, does come with a disclaimer. There are a few minor mistakes in the book, one is the name of a town and other was about the 6th Rangers but I canr remember the details at the moment. Eitherway, its still a great book for a starter reference.

HBT pants with a wool shirt and a 41 jacket is a good set up for a 2nd ranger. If you're allergic to wool, you might try what a friend of mine did. He cut an old pair of his wife's nylons and sewed a strip of it inside the collar of the wool shirt. Nobody can see it, and the wool no longer irritates his neck.
