I live up in New England and I only know of 2 places to get uniforms and gear from, which mostly consists of modern gear. So does anybody know of any shops that sell WWII uniforms or gear, preferably in New Hampshire?

Those stores up here dont usually sell them, if they do they usually price them for a lot of money or sell the un-serviceable type of uniform. Next time I am with my grandparents I'll see if we can go on a hunt for more gear.

I bought a 1942 dated mess kit manufactured by A.G.M Co. and a 1944 dated canteen manufactured by S.M Co. with a 1945 dated cup made by the same manufacturer all for $25 from them once. Also, thanks for the help, I greatly appreciate it.

I have one more question. After I buy some Marine's and Army Gear from ATF, if I have money left over, I am looking for a weapon, I dont want to use my thompson as much because it already broke on me and too many people have it. I want to do marines for fun. I also want to do army but since I can find anyone close to me for a unit I'll be doing backyard games with friends and I want an m1 garand or a springfield 1903

M1 Garand would work for Army from Africa until the end , Marines after Guadalcanal as well . '03 works as well for Army but as a Sniper / Grenade launcher after after Africa , Marines same from Guadalcanal on.

I pretty much love every WWII gun there is. It's just the way they look and how they were made that makes me love them more.

Yes indeed. You know what they say, "They just don't make stuff like they used too..."

sorry, I have another question. This is about the helmet. How would you go at putting on the cork texture and how do you put on the helmet net? I can't find out how to put it on.

sorry, I have another question. This is about the helmet. How would you go at putting on the cork texture and how do you put on the helmet net? I can't find out how to put it on. There are a few ways to apply the cork . One way is to use the spray on glue to the surface of the helmet and then apply the cork , after the glue dries spray paint the OD onto the helmet. Another way is to apply one coat of paint , OD or Red primer color , then apply the cork , when the base coat dries then apply another coat of OD. For the helmet net Place the helmet net on a flat surface and spread it out , place the helmet on top , grab a corner of the net and bring it into the helmet use some masking tape to hold the net in place , then repeat the process for the other 3 corners of the net , now use the string that the net comes with to tighten the net , not to much just enough for it to stay in place and then place the liner in the helmet shell . If you need help with this i can do a step by step with photos.

I did pretty much the same as G-man. The Helmet may have to be sanded a little if the coat it already has is rough or beat up. Sanding also helps the paint to stick better. Also good to wash it to get rid of any oils.
Just apply a coat of paint, then sprinkle the cork on. Apply another coat over the cork. Once it dries knock off any loose paint. Repeat the process till in looks right. It takes a bit of practice to make the cork look even but I am sure you'll be able to do it.
This seems to be the easiest way I know of.

adler, the helmet shell is an original swivel bale with an ATF complete liner. I got the shell for free and I am currently in the process of "restoring" it. I am going to have to sandblast it because it was also used in Vietnam and they sanded down the original cork and sprayed it again another olive drab color. I am going to buy the paint and cork with a new set of chinstraps from J murray soon. Thanks everyone for the help!

I figured it was a repro , i have heard from a lot of other GIs that no matter where they buy the net from they all seem to small , the original nets are almost 2 inches bigger on all four sides . My fix for all those guys has worked in the past , soak the net in water for about 5 minutes and stretch it over the helmet shell .
I also need to work on those step by step photos.

Finally got a chance to do the guide , hopefully you already got yours in , if not here we go Place the net on a flat surface , more or less in a diamond shape. Next place the helmet over the net with the front towards the top corner of the net Now grab the front corner of the net , place it inside the helmet and secure it with a piece of masking tape Next grab the left chinstrap and feed it through one of the squares in the net and then around the swivel bail Repeat this step on the right side Now grab the back end of the net , bring it into the helmet and pull on the string Make a knot on the string and place the helmet liner back on the pot You are all done

Thank you adler! I had to cut many threads on the net to just get it to fit but it has the look of a war torn piece.

Look for local airshows and living history events, you might have to travel out of state to find them bit prices are always better at these shows. You can get original uniforms cheaper then online repro at those events.

There is a Militaria web site which should list any shows occuring in the New England area. I have found the best combination of available selection and good prices at militaria shows and gun shows.
Adler Thank you for posting the wonderful tutorial on the helmet set up. (That should be a seperate sticky!) I have found that the key with the original nets and Norwegian copies is pre soaking them in water without it they simply can't be stretched to fit.
