Militaria shows and gun shows are the best places. If there are any around you, they are usually very cheap. Otherwise, I would try the $75 ATF one. You won't find one any cheaper, unless it's at a gun show or Militaria show.

I don't shop e-bay, so I wouldn't know. I wouldn't risk it; they usually kill you on shipping anyway.

How much are you lookin to spend? M1 helmets are easy to aquire ebay is starting to become expensive but never hurts in trying to look, also check local surplus stores. If you want an m1 helmet for around 70$ shoot me a pm and ill see what i can do for you. Also, you could buy a nam helmet and buy the late 50's early 60's liner that still has the stubs for the leather liner strap and just change the chin straps and it looks just like a ww2 helmet. You might have to paint it though/ -Nick

On ebay I've gotten multiple front seams. No risk at all if you know what you are doing and deal with reputable people. (99%+ feedback) I actually just got a front seam swivel bale pot, straps and nice paintjob, for $35 shipped. Just keep an eye out, and don't waste your cash on rear seams or any of ATF's helmet deals...You just end up wasting money in the end.

You are better off with a real steel none front seam than to get a plastic M1. RS from wrong era are 20.00 of less at most surplus stores. No reason to get a Cushman M1

check surplus stores or ATF, a good m1's usually worth the money and a bad one can totally knock an impression down a knotch. I have an m1c (airborne version with leather chincup and A-yokes) that I'm more than pleased with. ATF helmets will usually run you a little more than ebay ect. but it will certainly look correct for an impression.

I would be very surprised if you purchased a ww2 helmet at a surplus store, as many stores now are nothing more than glorified sporting goods stores. Are the chinstraps clipped on or are they sewn? Is there a number on the inside of the shell? These are some things you can look for to find a ww2 helmet. Also, I would not recommend you buy the ATF economy helmet, as all it is is a late war helmet with a nam liner. If you want to be accurate, you can find early war helmets way easier. Don't give up on Ebay, as there are many helmets on there that are mis-marked and you can get lucky. Nick

If you're gonna airsoft, its probably better to leave the front seam, fixed bale helmets at home. If the seam is in the back and it has swivel bales, it doesnt matter so take it out and you dont have to worry.....
If your gonna do a 2nd Ranger, there is a lot of great info on the web an dhere on this forum, but be careful. There are a lot of guys doing 2nd Rangers who jumped into the "Flaggrantly Wrong's Rangers" category because they either dont do the proper research or they base part of their impression on a pics that they cannot verify.....

Ebay is a gold mine. i got two from seam fixed bales for 20 bucks. Liners are harder to come by, WPG has postwar german liners that are pretty damn close to original fiber liners.

I found a front seam, fixed bale at an antique shop for $3, as well as a WW1 Doughboy helmet for the same price. Both are only the shells, but it's a start. Just browse around and be suspicious of everyone unitl trusting them and their items is justified.
I use a Nam era m1 and liner with repro WWII chinsrap, and the inaccuracies don't matter since I wear a helmet cover.
