Hello folks!
Like the title suggests, ive had nothing but an uphill struggle in regards to eye protection that wont make my impression "too" Flaggrantly Wrong, while still being versatile and practical. I'm limited, however in my choices due to the following.
1. im nearsighted, and cant tell the difference between an m1 helmet and a german helmet at more than 20 feet, and have had 15 friendly fire incidents at my friend's latest game with shooting glasses, so they are definately out. I need goggles that will fit over my glasses.
note, i already tried contacts, but they are very uncomfortable. I'd do anything not to wear them.
2. I still need to get proper boots, a helmet, and try and find an m41 jacket, so i can't go too over budget, 70 dollars is my limit.
3. I'd prefer to be able to wear face protection with it such as a zan neoprene mask, or something similar, since I don't plan on getting a modern impression anytime soon, and being shot in the face by an armalite jokey running at 30rps isn't too appealing.
I've found 3 things so far that seem to fit the bill
1. M44 goggles with ballistic lenses or custom made ANSI lenses. From what i've read, its possible to wear glasses under these. While i haven't seen any photos of infantry using them, i'd think that they wouldnt be as Flaggrantly Wrong as using modern goggles. projected cost is 30-50 dollars.
2. ESS striketeam XTO goggles. These are ANSI rated, and i can wear glasses with them. they don't seem THAT Flaggrantly Wrong, but definately odd looking. 48 dollars shipped and taxed.
3. ARENA Flakjak goggles. These are raging FARBs, but they work. My buddies swear by these, and they aren't too uncomfortable with an m1 helmet. 38 dollars counting for gas and tax.
I'd appreciate any input and advice on what to get.
