I was looking for impression inspiration and saw this photograph or a Waffen SS Unterscharführer but I can't figure out which cap he is wearing. I'm guessing it is the officer cap. Do you think it would be acceptable for a 15 year-old to be this rank? Attachments:

If you are leading a team of at least 10 individuals maybe, I'm pulling that number out of the air but to have that rank youd be a leader of men not an army of 1, or 3 for that matter.
'Unterscharführer was the first non-commissioned officer rank of the SS and was considered the equivalent of an Unteroffizier in the German Wehrmacht. Unterscharführer was also the most commonly held NCO rank in the SS and the duties of those holding the position were wide and extensive throughout the entirety of the SS.
Within the Allgemeine-SS (General SS), an Unterscharführer typically commanded squad sized formations of seven to fifteen SS troopers. The rank was also held commonly as an NCO staff position and could be found in all of the Nazi security agencies from the Gestapo, SD, and the Einsatzgruppen."

This is a Waffen SS NCO schirmutze. officers were also known to have worn it. I must say that i haven't seen any photos of one being worn in actual combat. Also i can't imagine a 15 year old having been promoted to sergeant let alone officer. In a year you would be elligible for recruitment to the hj division. As a private or SS mann, you would have a side cap or an M43, or a camouflaged M43 and a steel helmet. This would be far more believable. That said, it's a really nice hat. I got one myself even though most of my impressions are of privates.

I battle as an oberscharfurer (i'm 36) and mainly as I'm always leading a group, i do have an oberscuthze tunic that i'd prefer to use but it looks weird when you're leading platoons at that rank. I don't wear a crusher cap at this rank, they were not really worn in the field that much anyway - people just like the look These days i'm often running the entire axis side i portray a sturmbahnfuhrer and wear one only to mark out to the entire side who the officer is (this clearly works both ways and is why it wasnt done too often in real life... any good nco or field officer tries to look as similar to his men as pssible.. standing out is a great invitiation for terminal early retirement. At PBI and CIA events in the UK (just two of the organising bodies among many) we specificly ask players *not* to wear these caps as it makes it easier to spot and organiser and otherwie you end up with half a dozen guys wearing them and it looks daft tbh As an OberSchar I tend to wear a side cap as its easier to stuff into a pocket when I need to stick my helmet on. TBH the peaked caps are a pain in the arse... they make you really obvious, they catch on branches and undergrowth and even the cruser types are not easy to store if you're not wearing them. At 15 you will look odd as anything other than an officer cadet or private soldier... anyone playing an officer without a team of at least 4 guys to lead looks weird too. Generally speaking if you'e got the charisma, skills and persona to do the officer thing folk will be asking you to do it. Self promoted/imposed senior NCos and officers are the bane of WWII airsoft and re-enactment. Here's when i do an waffen ss officer, again i try and keep it mainly EMs kit as many waffen ss officers did. Once i've swtiched to a steel helmet covered in foliage it's hard to distinguish me from the rank and file so I can avoid being targeted/singled out. As an oberschar I think you can see the side cap tucked into my belt there. In answer to your question though... its a cap for senior ncos and officers, its not really appropirate for skirmishing, get a steel helmet first and yep it's not a rank for a 15 year old. This is my preferred rank and kit:
