Well Since I have been unable to touch my airsoft guns to work on them I got restless last night and stayed up until 4:00am working on this uniform. I got this reproduction P-41 Utility jacket from my surplus store guy for only $10 and since I wear an original P41 jacket for displays I figured that I could use the repop to make an early war field applied cammo paint job for it so I could have yet another example of a USMC uniform to add to my P41 and P42 sets. I tried my best to relicate the pattern and colors so I hope I got things right lol Here it is. I made special mixtures of the colors green and brown that you may find in the jungle and matched the pattern that I applied it, with what ever photos I could find with this cammo paint job. The descriptions of the cammo I found said that soldiers applied diferent shades of green and brown to their uniforms and on ocassion also applied white to them to (I didnt apply white) TommyGunner

Nope it is a cheap Asian Repop, thats whay I got it for $10 and thats why I choose to paint this uniform. And it definatly was done. Here is one of the two photos I used as a referance. Also here is a cool pic. A Marine early in the war useing a WW1 BAR. I like the look of that version and I might modify mine to be that version. TommyGunner

Osprey Publishing US Marine Corps Raider 1942-43. Thats the book I got it from. There is no date associated with the photo but from the text in the book that talks about the cammo paint jobs it seems that this was only instituted by the raiders and in 42 only. It goes on to say that the cammo paint jobs were probably not that efective but my goal is to eventually have an example of every USMC uniform regulation or not that was used in WW2.

Ha, I got one of those osprey books on the USMC too. Another weird one was on the makin islands the raiders dyed their kahki (class c I think) uniforms in black and used those. I think some guys even wore like sneakers.

Actually they really were there P41 combate uniforms (is that a calss C?). Alot of guys lost their uniforms for one reason or another and when they got back to pearl wearing their spare black dress uniforms or barrowed sailor uniforms everyone assumed that those were the uniforms they wore on Makin. When infact vets have said or written down that they wore Black dyed, or apparently cammo painted P-41 uniforms into combat on makin.
