I did some research on this unit and they are pretty bad@ss, so I was thinking of making a FSSF impression. These guys were pretty legit. They mostly carried Thompson SMGs and used the rare m1941 Johnson lmg. Just wondered if you guys had any thoughts or any impressions on these guys. Also does any1 know what exactly they wore? It looks like they wear a mix of m1943 and m1941 jackets at anzio, but idk what kind of pants they wore. Wool trousers or Mountain trousers? Here are some pretty cool pics... The FSSF patch. FSSF guys at the Anzio beachead preparing for a night patrol. Notice how one of the soldiers with the Tommy gun carries his 30 round mags. FSSF soldier at Anzio. FSSF troops in Italy. FSSF troops being bried for another mission.

Mountain trousers, m1-c helmet, mix of 43 gear and wools, over all that you have to wear bad ass all over. This s one kit I've wanted to do for a long time.

I liked the movie, but its ending irritates me. They could of sneaked up on that German artillery position.

I liked the movie, but its ending irritates me. They could of sneaked up on that German artillery position. That is very much how it happened in real life when the 1st SSF assaulted Monte La Difensa on December of 1943 , they climbed up the side of the mountain under artillery cover and mad it to the top , but while approaching the German position a trooper slipped on loose gravel and the Germans fired flares , from then on the fight was on , it took the 1st SSF 2 hours to capture the mountain top , the army believed it would take 4 to 5 days to capture it.

Here is a pic from June 2011. It is a mix of period and repro kit. We were asked to wear our kits to a Normandy themed paintball event to add some flavour. A group of us do WW2 airsoft in Ontario, Canada. I didn't feel like wearing 101st that day so I wore my FSSF kit. This is some of my kit as it was last summer. There were a few items that didn't make it out that day. I based the impression mostly from August 1944 pictures when the FSSF took part in the invasion of Southern France. M1 Helmet (my m1c and m2 with replica hawley liner didn't make it into my kit bag that day) Parachute helmet cover. Mountain Parka Mountain rucksack Mountain trousers Paratrooper boots Mounted cartridge belt with the reinforced suspenders. V42 knife and sheath Marushin Garand VFC BAR Etc Etc Sometimes I wear a tanker jacket or just the wool.em shirt with the fssf patch stiched on when playing. And I usually wear 2 buckle boots as I find those far more comfortable. Also usually game with a Thompson M1A1 or my Flaggrantly Wrong ares m3a1. I think there are 2 or 3 in our group of us that have FSSF impressions. Most of the crew are 101st, Commonwealth Airborne (Brit or Canadian). Most of the axis players are Waffen SS. The Supercommandos published by Schiffer Books is a good reference. As is First Special Service Force 1942-1944 by Osprey Publishing

There are pictures of a FSSF 3rd Regiment motar crew wearing parkas at Anzio. But parkas from that era in decent shape ain't cheap. They go from $100 to $400 from what I have seen. And they certainly aren't a must for Anzio.
From pictures I have seen Forcemen wore pretty much everything @ Anzio. 1937 wools with or without an M41 jacket. M43 jacket and non reinforced M43 pants. Mountain trousers and tanker jackets were in the mix too.
Most pictures of Forcemen from February to May 1944 show them wearing paratrooper boots.
Forcemen wearing two buckle boots begin to show up in pictures in the autumn of 1944 when the FSSF were in Southern France.
