I like to make the occasional knife and this was one of my first. The handle was made from the bones of a buffalo that was shot in 1889. The favorite part of knife making, for me, is the file work that goes around the handle and on top of the blade. [/img] Attachments:

On this knife I used two different buffalo's. The dark being the Cape Buffalo and the white being the American Buffalo. The inlays were made by putting various brass and copper tubes inside another tube. Then they are filled with a black epoxy and then placed inside a vaccum chamber to remove any air bubbles. There are a lot of designs that can be done. I accidently included another knife in this batch, but it gives you an opportunity to compare two different styles of file work. [/img] Attachments:

This final knife is one I made for my wife. She wanted a thicker knife so I made an extra wide spacer for between the blades. The style is the Trapper and notice that the file work goes from nearly the tip of the blades all the way across the back and then is carried around the knife to the inside. I plan to do another couple of pocket knives, but they are very time consuming and if you make the slightest error it will not line up for assembly. I don't plan on doing any more after the next two. Really nice craftsmanship. Anyone would be proud to brandish one of your knives in a bar fight. Maybe you should branch out into making bayonets. Stock and period looking of course.

No, I get bored making the same thing over and over. To show you how strongly I feel about that....my wife wants me to make a set of steak knives. Ok, I will make them, but every handle will be different and each knife will have a different scroll and file work on it. They will all look alike, but no two will be the same.
