Anyone here build plastic models?
I'm surprised no one has brought this up before, I would think some of the members on here would be interested in this hobby (since about 80% or so of models, are WW2 models).
It seems that this hobby is fading away, and I don't want to see that. What with the things you can learn from making scale models: aviation, military history, automotive engineering, naval technology, and so much more.
If anyone has any pictures of what they're currently building, already built, or even that stash of models that you need to finish, please post them.
This could also be a help thread if some has any questions on certain kits, manufacturers, paint, cement, decals etc.

1/144 Scale F/A-18E 1/144 Scale F/A-18E and 1/48 Scale F/A-18F 1/48 Scale Spitfires MkI and MkXIV and 1/72 Scale Spitfires MkI, MkVb, MkIX, MkIX 1/700 Scale USS Hornet (CV-8) and USS Fletcher (DD-445) I had a 1/700 Oliver Hazard Perry FFG, but someone decided to break all the masts off. I've got a pile of unbuilt 1/700 ship models that I have to get to sooner or later. I think a USS Arleigh Burke (DDG-51) is in order.

oooh spitfires! i love spitfires! was into scale modelling long before collecting the actual sized stuff. i don't build half as much as i used to but here's some of my recent stuff: Anneliese: A dragon king tiger in the markings of the 503rd heavy tank battalion Hungary 1945 A jagdpanther from Heavy dank destroyer battalion 654 Normandy: and a recent favorite, a Waffen SS MP40 gunner. Its amazing how much you learn about field gear webbing and uniforms when you actually have to wear them: will post a few more when i find them.

tinydata-nice Spitfires and jets. Say, about how long is the carrier?
Labrador...those are amazing, especially the zimmerit. Also, could you give a little insight on the M44 Dot?
I'll post some pics of what I've got soon, school gets out on friday, so I've got finals all week.

Thanks Cap'n
The zimmerit jobs are as follows:
1. Dragon Konigstiger - molded on, quite good if a bit regular looking 2. Jagdpanther - i first textured the model surface with some tamiya putty careful it melts plastic) and then used a scribing tool and a metal straight edge to cut the pattern into the kit. It helps to draw the pattern on first before cutting it. After scribing, i went over it with some liquified putty. (gunze mr. surfacer) 3. Tiger 1, i used grumbacher acrylic gesso and raked the pattern in with tamiya's zimmerit tool. 4. Panther A, same as the tiger except the pattern was vertical and squares were lightly scribed into the pattern after.
The M44 dot was basically a series of contrasting dots painted on with no.1 brush over a khaki and red brown pattern background. Light dots over dark and dark over light. I used khaki, olive green, red brown, buff and buff mixed with olive green for the dots. It helps to have a sample to copy but the tamiya box art comes with a small pattern guide.

I do 20mm white metal models and miniatures.
I'm sure there is a thread on here with dozens of pictures.
I sometimes use plastics but you get truer scale with metal and better detail.
