One of my complaints about airsoft is the guns just arent loud enough. AEGs sound like wood peckers. I wish they were louder. I understand there are screw on device for the muzzles of some guns that act like mini megaphones and increase the volume. I heard a demonstration today and was surprised at the amount of difference it made. This is especially noticeable out front. (as you might imagine).
My homemade BARs have a large hollow muzzle tube that extends well in front of the inner barrel and i know several people have commented about how loud they are. Unfortunately for most of our period weapons these device would detract from the visual effect of our replicas.
There was a flash suppressor for both the carbine and grease gun but I dont know if those were used in Ww2. If so I might try one on my ICS Grease gun.

Thats interesting as I installed a flash hider that i bought at a gun show on my ICS Grease gun that looks absolutely identical to that. It was sold as a carbine flash hider. It fit right on and dramatically increases the sound up front so it created the hoped for effect. I like the way it looks on the greaser as well.

Nice! I incedentally found out that a mock supressor from a broken p90 fits into the muzzle of my M1918a2 conversion and that deepens the sound of the report dramatically! It looks rediculous though! Just for gits and shiggles. ;D

Brownien,
If your conversion process is at all similar to my BAR homebuilts, I left the M14 site and flash suppressor exactly was they were on the M14 barrel However I shrouded the barrel in a larger outer barrel. At the M14 flash suppressor I likewise shrouded that in an outer tube and extended the length to be appropriate for a BAR and provide a barrel section that could accomodate a removable bipod. I then covered the site with a hood. The result was an appropriate thickness of barrel and proper length but a delightful suprise was the muzzle shroud like the flash hider on the Grease gun above dramatically and pronouncedly amplified the report. The ACM and ECHO 1 BAR likewise has something of the effect but not as pronounced. Its a cool and worthwhile effect. The louder report is distinctive and intimidating which a BAR should be! I used PVC tubing which I sanded and then painted.

Any idea if the megaphone shape like an the M9 flashhider works better than just a large hollow tube?

The megaphone shape is louder than a similarly shaped, straight outer tube. My grease gun with the flash hider is louder than my BARs (this effect is much more pronounced in both cases from the front of the weapon)
