These are mostly common sense items that most of you who have been airsofting for any length of time may already know. As with all things there are some nice reminders here too.
1. Use quality BBs and never "reuse" them. If you think you can pick ones up that you dropped and can reuse them, you're practicing false economy. Eventually the tiny flaws or specs of dirt you can't even see will cause problems either in your magazines or worse your gun.
2. Know what weight you are shooting and adjust your hop up accordingly. When in doubt start with no hop up and adjust upward. Shooting even a little while with too much hopup puts a lot of wear on the hop up nubs and can cause jams and bigger issues.
3. Periodically lube your gun and magazines but do so with pure silicon oil. Never use WD 40 or other similar oils as they are solvents and will damage you seals and gaskets if the oil gets to them.
4 Run a patch down your barrel after an outing to clear out tiny debrie. you'll be amazed how much nicer your gun will shoot.
5. Always unload your magazines before storing them. A full magazine leaves the spring in a tensioned state weakening it and essentially ruining or reducing the effectiveness of the magazine. Pull back on the little hold piece and let the BBs fly out. If they don't shoot out your magazines' already toast. Leave the BBs that flew out lay. They're miniscule compared to the cost of a magazine!
6. After firing full auto put the weapon on semi auto and squeaze off two or three shots to insure that the spring inside your AEG is not locked in a tense state which it MAY be when you stop firing on rock n roll. This is especially important before storing the AEG as it will really weaken your spring and lower your FPS.
7. If you use Ni Cad batteries be sure to drain them down to close to empty before recharging. They have a memory and it will shorten their ability to hold a charge if you charge them when they are partially charged.
8. Whenever possible charge at the slowest trickle rate as your batteries will last longer.
9. Invest in a smart charger as the wall chargers will quickly ruin your batteries even if you monitor exactly the charging times.
10. Buy and use quality batteries as the ones tht come free with your gun are typically awful.
11. If your AEG doesn't work (no sound at all) here are the first things to check. Is the safety off? Is the battery charged? Is your fuse blown?
12. If there is a sound and it sounds okay, but no BBs are coming out. Check your magazine. If you turn your rifle upside down and now it shoots, it's probably your magazine. Next check your barrel, run your rod down the barrel.
13 When you use an unjamming rod be sure the angled tip is set so it will push the BB down. Do not plunge the rod beyond the line that's on the rod for your rifle as doing so might damage your hop up.
14. If your gun sounds crappy when you are shooting it don't keep firing it as whatever is wrong will most likely only get wronger.
15. There is typically a screw or probe hole at the base of your motor. (Typically at the base of the pistol grip). Adjusting that can often fix your issue without a total take down
16. Have a simple set of tools and a nice towel to lay everything out on as well as a spare charged battery and silicon oil with you at events.
17. This is a no brainer but we've all seen it! don't stick your muzzle in the dirt.
18. Be safe and concious of your muzzle even when your gun is "empty". ricochettes are usually the BBs that find peoples eyes so wear goggles always when shooting or around someone who is shooting.
