Just use a Grease gun. The return on effort wouldn't begin to be worth it.

I see, well thank you 2nd Bat. I'm thinking about getting one and useing it as a captured weapon aslong as the mags would fit into MP 40 pouches. DrewB/Sniper Guy out

i think the mags would be way too big, I also think the germans would think the grease gun was a POS and prefer to carry something else. Thats just my gut reaction, based on memiors, Germans LOVED m1 carbines, get one of those if you want a capture gun.

I don't know of anyone who thinks the grease gun isn't a POS. The only reason it replaced the thompson is because it cost less than half the cost of a thompson and it took a fraction of the time to make a grease gun. As for quality, I see it as a situation similar to the M-16. The M-16 was a very crappy gun in Vietnam but did the Army stop distributing them? No, they tried to improve it. The Army always tries to find ways to cut cost even if it means sacrificing a little quality or performance.

The grease gun cost way less then half the cost of producing a Thompson. A Thompson was an expensive gun to build. One of the most expensive common weapons of the war. Production cost was over $200.00. I've seen production estimates on the Grease gun ranging from $9.00 to 19.00. Obviously stamping is way cheaper then machining. With that said the gun performed quite well was fairly robust and demonstrated decent reliability. Some were still in vehicle brackets during the Gulf war so they've soldiered on for many many years.
There's no doubt the German Army would have been underwealmed by the weapon upon close inspection and would probably not be enamored enough to prize it's use in anything but desperate circumstances.

Well, the way I see it what good is the gun if the clips are going to jam themselves up causing your gun not to fire. The M-16 is not known for it's reliability and only after several years of modifications did it finaly become a reasonably reliable weapon. The only reason we see the grease gun around until the early 90's is because the Army enjoyed the insanly cheap price of producing the piece of junk.
