They look so ridiculous...but it will fool people who can't tell the difference between repro, post-war, and original helmet shells.
Make sure to pick up the right style helmet cover. SS had the clip on type while Heer used the draw string type. Make sure the camo is correct and don't be fooled by the "DOT 44" fantasy covers.

Yeah, the drawstring one should work no problem. The clip one I would hazard to guess it will.

I am ss, but I found a drawstring kind that is reversible from splinter to white. OR shouLD I risk getting the clip oak leaf kind. The seller said it will fit sizes under shell size 72, so I think it might work to cover up that scary helmet lol.

Hey you know, the peaked officer cap is actually close enough to represent a helmet. It covers a lot of your head and it is semi-hardened. lol I might do this instead.

Those helmets are TERRIBLE! You can get a Spanish helmet for about the same price. At least that you can paint and throw a helmet cover on AND...it's a real helmet. Don't waist your time or cash on that paintball halmet.

Those are cushman paintball helmets and they look better in person. The maniquin heads they use to display them are pretty small if you have a small head glue in some foam padding and it will look good. If you have a huge egg like me no padding neccessary. They still don't look great but they are under 20.00 at the original site www.cushmanpaintball.com/GermanHelmetPage.html They are very thin plastic. They will stop a bb though. Incidently I have a drawstring splinter cover I would sell pretty cheaply if you are interested. You could buy one and use it till you save up the 100.00 you will need to buy a real one. Zak do you have a link to wear I can purhase a spanish helmet? Those seem to be hard to come by.

Mauser, you missed my point. SS wears the clip, NOT the drawstring. You only have one choice.
Also note that the crusher was not allwed in combat. Helmets were manditory wear.

lol that pic is pathetic.
I have a Spanish helmet that I bought years ago, I recently painted it OD(I know its not the right color) but I dont use it, so I can sell it if someone wants, but the liner is busted on 2 of the pins, definately wearable, but you may want a new one. Just thought I would let anyone know.

While the gun and that darn hopper does not look great, the uniform is passable. The helmet doesn't look bad at all and would look just fine from 10 feet. I hate the mask but according to most PB field rules he wouldn't be able to play like that anyways most insurance requires full face and ear protection.
Is it even close to reenactor standards? Certainly not. Would it do with a proper weapon like a Tanaka K? Yeah it would do ok for airsoft. Still needs to lose that mask. Also he would have been better off wearing those pants with just the jump smock over it.
Would you guys let some new guy show up like that? Obviously he wouldn't have the mask and chessy gun. What if he had a proper uniform with proper helmet but he had an M4?

At this embryonic point in WW2 airsofts growth lets go ahead and do all we can do to establish ourselves as Elitist snobs to further discourage the "Rabble" from entertaining the idea of joining us in battle. No wonder most groups either never hold events or are lucky to have 10 guys show up. I'm all for striving for realism and do a great deal to supplement those who aren't ready to present an accurate impression but this sounds way too much like the things that kept me from even considering being a serious reenacator. How bout we walk before we run. Be nice to folks who are trying and encourage over time the realism we all want to strive for.
There is much we sophisticates can laugh at with this paintballer but I give him a "E" for effort. Not everyone is willing to don an accurate 200.00 replica hemet or show up with a 1200.00 actual item. I think with the right amount of TLC those helmets v=can be made to look pretty good.
Believe me there's plenty of anecdotal and photographic evidence to support the notion that not all SS or common german soldiers wore helmets at all times in combat! I love your passion for authenticity but...

Well I think it should be pointed out that 'our subject' is holding a 68 cal Paintball gun- and unless I'm mistaken that weapon would not be allowed in an airsoft event anyway- So let's instead consider only the uniform and helmet he is equipped with and disregard the completely out of reg gun.....for now. As far as the uniform and mask- 1st, I don't really see to much the matter with the uni- again considering this is a 'pain'baller, I say "Thin plastic vaccu-form helmets off to ya" because he looks a lot better than the 'jeans and sweatshirt' look so common to most paintball arenas I've been too. Now about the mask- well again, Paintball- but, we here in Colorado have the same "Full-Face Protection rule set" so, at least here that is pretty common. (Which makes it a real bear to sight in a M1 Garand let me tell ya ) And as for the gun- again, in the contect of "Thisis a picture of a Paintball player not a Airsoft player- I say well done- looks better than most electric blue pirannahs you see out there. ....at least he's trying....don't get me started on the 'challenges' even hard-core Airsoft groups in 'some' western state not-to-be-mentioned face regarding WWII uniform reqs -G

Bulgarian or Spanish is the way to go if you're looking for a cheap alternative. Or, you could find a Post-War Western German Helmet.

yeah we do have to realize that that uniform is about to be destroyed by paintballs, and atleast he is trying to evoke the spirit of WW2 combat, (at least as much as you can in paintball) You've got to give him props for that. my suggetstion: All the guy needs to do is buy a sportsman's guide fally smock, for $50 and he would look 1000 times better than the east german 4 pocket with the luft insignia on it. If he is going to do all that work on the 68 caliber fg42, then he really should do that.
But hey I stopped playing paintball 13 years ago, to go airsoft. Airsoft leaves less to imagination than paintball does. which is why a WW2 paintbaler would look outragous to a ww2 airsofter.
It probably gives us a good idea of how WW2 Blank fire guys might react when they see WW2 airsofters! yikes! -Gordak

Quick "Reenactor meets Airsofter" story- My Airsoft team hosted an event that past weekend as part of the COASG "Winter Airsoft League" here- While the event was not remotely WWII related, it was actually a modern opfor rescue the downed pilot then find the sam missile site scenario, it was held outside and the weather here in Colorado was pretty nice for being January, mid 50's so I brought out 'ol Betsy. So after lunch we are walking back to the field, myself and two other members of our team and two of us were toting M1 Garands. We pass by a group of modern Airsofters that were there for the day's pick-up games when over my shoulder I hear "Hey Guys! Wait up!" Here comes the father of one of the other Airsoft guys and he has his eyes set on the Garands. So we proceed to let him touch, feel and drool over the Marushins! His son comes up and it turns out that both Father and son are members of the local Colorado Kampfgruppe, a German reenactor group! kriegspfarrer.tripod.com/index.htmlApparently his son is into Airsoft as well as reenacting and has been telling his pops "Hey Dad...they have a Garand now!" so Dad saw these two sweet looking M1's march by and he had to see them for himself. Great couple of guys, the Father owns a MP43 that he uses for the Kampfgruppe. I am planning on meeting up with their group for a couple of their training/practice sessions this winter and opening the lines of communication between the two groups.....and well yes, so maybe I can see the MP43 upclose and personal I'll be sure to wear my best impression gear, (Capt. Zak.....I'm counting on ya ) and bring old Betsy around for 'Show and Tell' -G

Mauser I guess Dan already answered this but those are what my group calls Cushman helmets. I happen to own one and although it may not stand up to the North/midwest authenticity standards, down south where I play it is a very good helmet in my opinion due to its light weight. I personally do not think it is worth Mr.Cushman's price however and when I ordered it it took 3 weeks to get to my place because he was out of stock or something but maybe that might be resolved by the time u order yours. This has lead me to lose some trust in Mr. Cushman. It all depends on your authenticity standards for your group. But as I understand it you use all this stuff to make movies instead of games? Correct me if I am wrong. With the helmet cover on there it will look fine. Also I do not know how you are doing on a uniform but this is a suggestion for a cheap uniform. As you can see in the picture that was posted above that man is wearing an early east german enlisted man tunic as you can tell by the buttons. Those patches that he has were bought at Mr. Cushmans for around 15$ that includes everything even the belt buckle. (what kind of belt this would go on I still have not figured out). It looks good at a distance but from what I understand it is printed cloth or something. But I definitely recomend it if your short on cash. You can buy the east german tunics here www.tridentmilitary.com/EG-Uniforms.htm (It is the TN01A model) and you can buy the patches here www.cushmanpaintball.com/GermanUniformPatches.html also you can find a good guide to a decent german uniform on the cheap here www.worldwar2airsoft.com/gimpress.htm all this advice will probably make the north/midwest players puke from the innacuracy but I think it is totally ridiculous to pay $400 for some clothes and a metal bucket to stick on ur head.

One major detail we are forgetting, is the Luftwaffe never wore anything like that uniform... you would really be better off getting a blue or tan blazer from salvation army ($2.00)... it would be more believable too. The problem with plastic helmets is as soon as someone takes his helmet off the totally inaccurate liner is exposed to the world and thus hurts the feel to all who can see. Furthermore a lighter fake helmet gives you an advantage over the more authentic guys who are carrying heavy helmets. I understand not everyone can afford metal helmets, so I try to look the other way, but I will never try to encourage it. especialy since very nice metal FJ helmets cost only $120 now. (I payed $450 for mine 3 years ago!) -Gordak

Yeah you can look at it as an investment in future loaner gear on the helmets and the uniforms as you progress in the hobby and collect more gear that may be more correct you will still have the cheapers stuff that you can use to get your buddies into the swing of things.
You can put out all the money up front and that will save you some dough in the long run for sure. But for some they just can't do that.
We played an invite only game today with 9 players and some of us had Cushman helmets none of us had the real deal except the Americans (Which is what side I played on today) I can't say the cushman helmets stopped my smile all day as I looked down the site of my Thompson and I never stopped durring a battle to notice the many incorrect items people had on. Depends on your mindset I guess. Some people it ruins the whole feel for them if they see incorrect things and you have to respect thier attention to detail and drive to be 100% accurate.

I do not speak for all people but for most $120 is alot of money to spend for a metal pot to put on your head that only slows you down when you can get a good plastic helmet. I support the cushman helmet with my life. However I am working on finding the source of where he buys the plastic helmets he paints so I can make the helmets for people who dont have them for even cheaper. Is it not true that the people using the metal helmet chose to wear it? So if they chose to wear it they chose to have a disadvantage. This is what I do because I would sure like to see everyone in accurate uniforms (but they are wayyyy to expensive and to be honest I do not see why they are that way), I just train my brain to think of the uniforms as historically acurate and you just get used to it. It does sort of makes me mad when people come like this. www.worldwar2airsoft.com/axis2.jpg If these guys would get a cushman helmet I think they would look not so bad but the beanie caps just kill it for me. I cannot train my brain to think of german soldiers wearing beanie caps. But they tried and thats what counts right? I wasnt at this op but I am sure it was a blast.

The Critcal point I have to make is there are two groups colliding here ww2airsoft.com (this board) is 100% realistic worldwar2airsoft.com is a group that just has fun with a loose ww2 theme anyone who posts here has to realize we want to see 100% authentic, otherwise it doesnt belong here. People on ww2airsoft.com (this board) will probably post negitivly about what would be perfectly fine over at worldwar2airsoft.com and dont forget! ww2airsoft.cjb.net has arrived on the scene this board deals with 100% realism only. so please post whats appropriate depending which board you are on. -Gordak
