Edit: I think I may have put this in the wrong section? Before: After! (If you look closely the barrel section and the receiver section are two different shades of grey, that's what they looked like in the pictures I could find) I used filler primer to remove all the tiny groves in the barrel and Body filler to fill the seam between the barrel parts then wet sanded with 400g sandpaper. Then used Rustoleum Self Etching primer(witch makes a very nice Green/gray dull primer color) and then wet sanded with 400g sandpaper again to give a nice smooth metal sheen. The receiver is a bit blotchy due to me having to hand paint it but looks fine for now. I think I puled it off quite nicely

I believe the grooves in the barrel are supposed to be there to help cool it down easier
overall it does look nicer but still too clean i think =P

I was watching a video on youtube that had the "New" Ohio-Ordnance B.A.R. that used an original barrel and it was super smooth, as well in the pictures I have they look smooth.
