actually they couldn't get away with any weapon they wanted. like any ordinary soldier, majority were issued with a standard issue rifle so the kar98 is correct. which kar98 are you planning to get. you might have an easier time in games with an mp44, but yes the kar was the most common weapon used.

Mp40 would be cheapest, but for an enlisted infantryman, it would be more correct to have a Stg44.

In the early part of the war, when the SS was building up its numbers, they were often equipped with substitute standard weapons, like the Erma EMP-35 submachinegun, because the Wehrmacht was hard pressed to equip itself with Kar98's and MP40's, and they didn't like the competition from Himmler's private army. Later in the war, as Hitler grew distrustful of the Wehrmacht and Himmler's influence grew, the SS got a higher priority, but that was for the standard German weapons.
One thing you have to realize. This idea that elite units get to carry whatever weapon they want only exists in movies, comic books, and cheap fiction. In the real world most everybody most of the time carries whatever weapon the Table of Organization and Equipment (and its German counterpart) says they're supposed to carry. It's simple logistics. How do supply and a support a division where everybody's got a different weapon. In combat some people from necessity might use battlefield pick ups, but once they got to the rear to refit those weapons would have been replaced with regular issue weapons. The Germans did, because of shortages, use a large number of captured weapons. SVT40's and PPSH41's were fairly common. They even converted some PPSH41's to the standard German 9mm cartridge (just a matter of changing barrels). But most of these weapons were given to rear echelon troops, occupation troops, anti-partisan troops, police, and towards the end of the war the Volkssturm got anything and everything that was left over.

Military does not organize according to religion...unless you want to reenact 30 years war. why should that matter in WW2 airsoft?

Strange but ok. I mean, I really dont have any religion and I am more than willing to help. Not sure why religion should be the measure of a person's morality or kindness.

I'm an agnostic. I have some really good christian, really good catholic, really good muslim and really good atheist friends. Many of them in the same WW2 airsoft team. It really shouldn't matter. Get your impression started and we'll continue to give you good advice.

I ran across this the other day in the Wikipedia article on Waffen SS. Didn't know it before. What's odd is that I always thought Himmler was into mysticism and the occult, as well as the old Nordic gods like Wotan. Of course, this may have only been window dressing to manipulate the clergy. The Nazis went to considerable effort to subvert and control the religious establishments.

This is a forum. Built around the hobby of historical reenactment using airsoft as the method to depict simulated armed conflict. It welcomes discussions germain to the uniforms, weapons, gear and tactics of the time along with historical insight. There are members of all faiths represented here as well as atheists and agnostics. This is not a forum that allows discussions outside the parameters of WW2 airsoft. You have taken this thread on a track that will force me to delete or lock the thread should you persist.
While it has often been said there are no atheists in foxholes, and all wars are political, religious or political discussion have no place here.

Sorry I got off track. I just found that little factoid interesting.
Anyway, a thought on another way to go. There's a number of threads on converting M14's to Gew43's, of varying levels of accuracy. You might look at some of them and consider trying one. The G43 was reasonably common in the later part of the war. If you're on a budget you could try converting a springer that has decent FPS. It would still be a springer but it might be a tad faster to operate than a bolt action.

Or depending on your abilities, you may be able to get a boneyard aeg m14 to convert. The fixes on boneyard guns seem to be very simple or cosmetic.

It's kind of like the lottery. The best I got was an MP40 that had one wire come loose. That was all that was wrong with it. I've also gotten a couple where the problem was inside the mechbox. Broken teeth. Piston head come loose. And some that were disassembled and only partially put back together, with parts missing. Worst case scenario is you're going to have to rebuild the mechbox, which is not that big a deal most of time and you'd probably want to upgrade it anyway. Great learning experience and I much prefer mucking about with a comparatively cheap broken gun than hacking up a brand new one.

If its the same m36 tunic that you posted the link from hessian antique earlier in the thread, then no, dont return it. Brand new m36's were generally greener than later war tunics, and they would fade to a grey color, much like the m41 Parsons Jacket is originally Olive Drab, No.3 and fades over time to a light khaki color.
