I picked up a boneyard WE Browning Hi-Power from Evike. I think I see the problem and I can make it work again. Otherwise, it'll be a prop gun. Unfortunately, it came in either black or chrome with no choice, and what I got is chrome. Anybody have tips on painting over a chrome surface? I'm planning to use Brownell's Aluma-Hyde II paint.

I dont think there is any commercial way to strip and paint over chrome, but you can sandblast it to dull the surface for paint to adhere better. That or you could take the parts to a plating shop and have them unplate them.

Found some info on car forums. They run into chrome on plastic parts. Sandpapering and self-etching primer (never heard of it before) seem to be the answers, though they also says it's a problem.

I would be surprised if the WE Browning was acually chrome but would expect it to be a simulated chrome finish. (although I could be wrong!). I have a Tanaka Revolver that I bought at a garage sale of all places and it was a "Chrome" finish. I clraned it, primered it and painted it a flat anthracite finish and it came out looking good and has held up well with truthfully fairly minimal use. I assumed it was just a chrome painted surface.
