Ok guys this is has been bugging me: A while back I bought what was described as original gebirgsjager boots. Then Gordak told me they weren't original because they had lace holes instead of the hooks you wrap the laces around. So I did some research and heres what I came up with: ok heres your run of the mill sought after gebirgsjager boots ok these boots are original gebirgsjager boots Then I found these, which are the ones i have these are the swiss ones everyone wants off ebay Ok so what I found out about the inset pair is that they are ww2 german but all the pairs i've seen posted on ww2 fourms are 1944 marked. SO heres my theory about them: In late 1943-44 the german army was looking for a way to save materials so one of the things they did was redesign the gebirgsjager boots to be more cost effective and save on materials (since the gebirgsjager boot was the most expensive boot made by german army). That would explain why there is so many surviving examples!

Nice! Sadly I broke my right ankle while airsofting, so I stick to high, and period incorrect boots (I cover them with winckelgamaschen)...
I read somewhere that GJ even originating from Austria or Bavaria in many cases used their own boots, skis, civilian ski anoraks etc...
I have gebirgsjäger impression too (I made a copy of my original anorak).

I found a picture that might be helpful. Not sure if these are the exactly the same boots or not, most of them seem to have more eyelets. At any rate the center pair has eyelets instead of hooks. Also, the boots in the top left and the top right seem to have fewer eyelets and no hooks (like yours). boots

that actually proves my point even further that they made them with what ever was available at the end of the war!
