As I will be using the redfire gas kar98k, I need to find a way to hold the longer mags. Is there a model of cartriage pouches that were longer than the standard type? Or is there a way to possibly modify the regular type to fit the mags, without looking obvious?

G41 or G43 ammo pouches might work instead of Kar98k pouches, they were slightly larger. How did your Kar98 do in the rain by the way?

Despite being outgunned firepower wise, it did quite well! It crooned at 450 with .25's and was very accurate! I just wish I had more mags for it so I could have been more effective with it. There were times after I ditched it for my m1, that I really wished I had been using it still, especially when there were nmy guys taking pot shots at me from 200+ ft away in the open! I could have plunked them easy! But alas, my m1 wouldn't get tight enough groupings at that range.
I will consider the g43 pouches, as at one point I want to build one for when I cannot use the gas rifle when it gets colder.

Good to hear, sounds like a nice replica of the Tanaka. Too bad we decided to head back early because of the rain, I had bought my Kar98k with me as well (a vsr10 conversion). I believe the red fire uses the same mags as it's m700, though I'm not sure where to find those. I usually just put my K98 mags in a gp bag or in my pockets. I don't really play as German, but the one time I did, I just put them in a bread bag

I know for me, i had to cut the separator for the IJA belt set ammo pouches to make my vsr 10 mags fit, could try that.

Do they work in your K98? That really helps if so. To be skirmishable how many do you think you need? They are 10 round magazines right? How many loads on a single gas fill can you get and how hard are they to reload with BBs?

Yeaaaa.... about those mags. They are identical in design, except for the length! About a half inch too short! GAH! So, if anyone needs M700 mags, just PM me. As for how many you'd need to skirmish, at least 2-3 spares. they are fairly easy to load, but must be done by hand. I can get off about 20 decent shots with a single load of propane, more if its hot out. If anyone sees Redfire come out with spare mags, please let me know! I love the gun, just hate running out of ammo mid skirmish!

Use your pockets. The Germans were notorious for stuffing things like ammo in their pockets.

Then you can top up rounds with a speedloader or a "stripper clip".

it conceivably could be set up that way and indeed Schmitty who used to be quite active on these boards and is an extremely gifted gunsmith made a Custom Kar 98 that loaded from the top which was very very cool. Unfortunately no one else has chosen to take that approach and these are set up to load both gas and Bbs in the magazine which load from below. Think for a minute about the way you put BBs into a magazine. There has to be a stopper that holds the bbs into place when they are not inserted in the gun. Figuring out how to bypass that from the top with a reliable and durable system is difficult. I for one have no real issue with the snap in magazine and in the case of the Tanaka and this clone feel like they are actually quite ncely dsigned although mag availability and expense is a real concern and remains the obstacle to this being a viable skirmish weapon.
