Hi guys,
I want to start acquiring parts for a Kar98 springer conversion and was wondering what recommendation you would give for the base gun? Most people seem to choose the VSR-10, but I have also noticed the MP001 by AGM being used as well. Is this a matter of preference or are there pro and cons to using each system? Also would you recommend using RS stock and hardware and just using the rear bolt piece and cosmetics from the Dboys as opposed to buying a wood Dboys and using that stock?
Thanks,
Jer

I have done numerous bolt action conversions using a wide variety of base airsoft guns. The MP001 is very inexpensive which obviously is desireable. It is also somewhat smaller in size which makes for an easier fit in some of the thinner rifles you are replicating (like the Mosin and the Arisaka). For the Kar 98 the larger JG Bar 10 fits fine. With any of the cheaper Chinese VSR base rifles you are going to want to upgade the trigger box as they all exhibit slam bolt failures pretty quickly otherwise. (The AGM usually within 300 - 500 rounds). To minimize expense and simlify your life I would go woth using a real wood DBoys Kar 98 as the base although actualKar 98 stocks are pretty cheap and a toes up DBoys is cheap cheap cheap as well. it rally comes down to the level of authenticity you are seeking. Thewood on the DBoys replica is a soft ash and iseasier to hollow out. Also a consideration.
The JG Bar10 is fully comatible with all Marui VSR 10 upgrades where the other brands accept some while not others and the AGM 001 can accept very few upgrade parts. All of them can use the simple steps needed to improve performance and there are threads upon threads explaining them. (Teflon tape, shortening the nozzle etc). The final result is a pretty decent shooting rifle that can be cocked fairly quickly from thw shoulder and doesn't tie up a lot of money.
