But there is a limited amount of axis WWII guns. True there are some but for a K98 is $500. for someone who is new to WWII airsoft why couldn't they get a C-96 if thats what they could afford? Lets not push people away from our hobby because people are being snobby about guns. Sorry if thats harsh but there is no reason to be uptight about guns. the C-96 would be better than an M4 or MP5, I'm I right or am I right?

It's obviously pretty hard to be a real stickler about weapons choices when they are so limited and when available are either extremely expensive or ineffective or both. Certainly this gun although technically incorrect is better then many available choices and in addition to being inexpensive actually shoots pretty well. Eventually the goal of all WW2 airsofters should be to obtain the best and most authentic replica you can afford. If that leaves your choices limited to the C-96 at this point in time then I say go for it. Just be advised that it is in fact not an authentic representation of a WW2 gun. I think that's all Gordack is suggesting.

Isn't a C96 just your basic mauser bromhandle pistol? The rifle is called an M712 schnellfuer carbine. The marushin and HFC pistols are M712's, the full auto capabale variant of a C96. Since they aren't capable of full auto fire I don't understand why they didn't leave the fire selector off and just make them C96's ? Anyway, I agree that due to the lack of weapons available and the high cost of the ones that are I'm fine with seeing these on the battlefield.

m712 is good, C96 pistol is good c96 rifle is BAAAD!!!!!! this is what the whole argument was about before, Why not get a standard airsoft c96 broom handle (which is cheaper and easier to get) than get a more expensive gun that wasnt used(C96 rifle). The picture is missing the caption from the last time we argued about this, C96 pistol is great, C96 rifle only 1000 were made and these were used by the brazilian police (im not joking). here is a helpful link that explains the history of the rifle www.gunsworld.com/mauser/c96_carb_us.htmlAnyone who has limited money and buys the c96 carbine or say a baby garand instead of cheaper historically accurate guns is directly challenging the goals of this site, which is to help ww2 airsofters get going as accuratly and affordably as possible. -Gordak

Or virually everyone has Thompsons and M-4s or AKs or you have an event with 5 people! OR NONE AT ALL and we just spend our time on the boards dreaming about events that either don't happen or don't get the tunout we hoped for or happen with compromises. Thankfully that's getting to be the case less and less often. It's not a case of good or bad it's a case of effort and goals. The C-96 is closer then most affordable offerings but don't buy it or use it with the belief that it is accurate. It's a step in the right direction and I'd rather see five of them in use at an event then 5 airsoft M-16s! Or guys trying to get by with a springer that's period correct but not effective.

I would understand of someone aready had the c96 rifle and wanted to play, that would be fine. But if someone was looking for a ww2 gun to buy, and they wanted a broomhandle, should'nt they buy a standard c96 broomhandle, and not the c96 rifle?
Marushin made a m712 stock a long time ago, (you got to keep an eye on ebay) for people that want a full stock.
Does everyone know we are talking about 3 different types of broom handles here? 2 that were in ww2, and one that was not. The most expensive one, the c96 rifle, is the one that was not in ww2.

Gordak I see what you are saying. If you are buying something new for your German Imp. It might aswell be one of the 2 more accurate cheaper guns then the one gun that is more expensive and not WW2 accurate. If you already have the C96 thats fine it will do till you get something better or more accurate just like if you show up with a TM MP5.

Finally some clarity on everyones thinking! Great thread. I for example didn't realize the authentic broomhandle Mauser was less expensive.

You can always go the "captured US M1 Carbine" route like I do. I love that gun and the Krauts picked them up when ever they could. BUT...that doesn't mean every German playing airsoft should have one...just a way to add some variety. A K98 should be the definite chioce. I plan on making that my next AS gun. ;D

could you play that way? I think people would be more mad about that than they would if you carried a C-96 or could you do a German soldat with a Thompson? or carrying a .45 or a German carrying any Allied weapon

Until there is an affordable and useful out of the box German AEG then I think our choices are limited. I made a K98 replica with my APS2. But I use a CA33e most of the time. I used a M1A1 for awhile as a captured weapon. If you are going to spend the money on a Garand you might aswell by a K98 it is more accurate and cost around the same. If you have an M4 take some of that modern gear off it and use it on semi.

To my knowledge there is no airsoft c96 available. They are all m712's If it has the fire selector switch on the side it is a M712 not C96. The rifle is called the M712 carbine not C96 rifle. The Brazillian police used M712's but we don't know if they where pistols or carbines, The Guns world article is not clear about that, but it seems more likely police would carry pistols, so who did use the carbines?
Has anyone noticed the c96/m712 in Band of brothers?

You see lots of photographic evidence to suggest that Germans using captured US weapons was commonplace. The carbine for some reason seems to be the most common. Probably because the Garand clip feed system required a little familiarization and was somewhat unintuitive. The occassional Kraut "M-1 Thumb" probably disuaded it's use as well.
What scene had the c96/ m712? I never noticed. Of all the things to get heated debate about though this one seems pretty trivial. It sure points out the need for some major manufacturer to jump on the WW2 weaponry band wagon. BAR, GARAND and M1 Carbine as AEGs along with a decent and affordable MP-40 AEG and a reasonably priced MP-44 would be huge. While there at it a Springfild 03 would be nice as well. I realize a well made Garand AEG would put my $700.00 offerings out of anyones shopping list but the availability would be worth it.

Well put, John. This is in no way an argument. I Totally understand Gordaks point, Anyway.. The Band of brothers scene is in one of the last episodes (don't remember exactly which) As the Trucks full of GI's are rolling into Germany a French? soldier executes some Germans with the Mauser pistol just as they drive by.
