I started in on one several times but could ever get it...."finished"
I'm sorry LOL I could resist! There is in fact a very active WW2 airsoft group in Finland. Interestingly the group I am aware of primarily does US vs German. I sold nearly two dozen of my M1 Garands into Finland early on and have a picture of a large group of them in US set ups many of them with Garands I built. I'm sure there must be a group or two that do the Winter WAR as well.

I would really like to do Finnish and Hungarian impressions because no one does them. I plan on doing Canadian and maybe even Brazilian for some of my allied kits. I like unique impressions to be honest. But who doesn't! Lol

So my understanding is Finniah field gear consisted of little; ammunition pouches, bread bag, canteen, maybe a mess kit. Is my understanding correct?

The Finns weren't a particularly wealthy country. You kind of get the feeling they outfitted their army by going to German and Swedish yard sales. A lot of their stuff was left over German WWI equipment or patterned on German WWI stuff. They used some Swedish items, including helmets, though I've read the Swedish helmets were more used by support units to avoid confusion. The 2nd Jaeger reenactor website is good for what you need. The basics would be tunic and trousers, boots, helmet or M36 field cap, belt and ammo pouches, breadbag and canteen, and, very important, a Finnish sheath knife called a puukko. No Finn would be caught without one. The typical soldier carried either a Moisin-Nagant, either the Finnish made version or captured Russian, MP-31 Suomi smg, or later a captured PPSh41 or Russian SVT-40. For uniforms they had a winter wool uniform and a summer uniform made of a denim type material. www.2jager.com/index.htm

Thank you! I have already visited this site and forgot to me toon the knife. What I've heard is that they brought their own personal knife, so no two knives were the same. The puukko was actually more of an award, it was an honor to the Finnish soldiers to carry one.

I know we have (or at one time had) quite a few Finns on this site. it would be cool to hear from them as to what "dad" or "grandpa" could share about their gear or equipment. Interestingly most of their impressions are US or German as they mostly depict Western European battles. there is also a very active and organized Vietnam War group whose impressions are as good as I have ever seen.
