Here's a video from Forgotten Weapons of a guy shooting and talking about an original first model FG 42. Some good views of the weapon. www.forgottenweapons.com/This entry will be bumped down every day, so after today you'll have to scroll down to find it.

Interesting thought. The FG42 was only about an inch and a half longer than an M4 carbine. It would seem like a perfect weapon for the panzer-grenadiers who were transported by half-track or truck. If the original model had been designed for ease of production and they had the capacity to crank them out quickly, you could see the Heer saying "We want those". With a proliferation of FG42s and then STG44's the German squads would have had some awesome firepower.

The FG 42 was very advanced (like so many of Germanys wonder weapons) it remains elusive as a airsoft offering as it was quite tiny in demensions and very unconventional. A cool weapon indeed. Schmittys from way back when remains my favorite custom gun to date. What ever happened with the cad design machinest guy who was coming along nicly on his?
Please don't tell me that like so many he got to the feeding and actually firing part and got stuck. This is what hapens with 90% of these efforts unfortunately.
