I would also recommend putting L brackets at the lower corners sized to allow tent stakes to be used to secure them in place, bolted into the framing. With guys actively coming in and out of them, firing guns, etc., you don't want your bunker shifting during combat. Not too realistic that.

Salvaged foam has lotd of promise and I would enjoy seeing outcomes of its use. how well does foam take paint however? The layer of gunite cement I know works well.
I can't resist one more comment on barbed wire. In combat, inspite of the hazard, damage to uniforms, tearing of skin and impediment to movement there were occassions when assault forces were taked with breeching it. Jumping over it, crawling under it, sneeking through it and even throwing your body on it dliberately to allow your team mates to quickly cross it. With fake wire all of that action can freely take place hence in its own way promoting authentically aggressive play wgile still remaining safe. Kinda sounds like the spirit a historic based airsoft.

LOL! We certanly can use this tread to keep discussing the uses of faux barbed wire! I have found sites which tell you how to make it cheaply using polypropylene twine. Faux barb wire. I wouldnt feel bad about people cutting or breaching this stuff. And I would probably use it in a phase of a op as an objective. It Could add some very interesting combat situations, especially if the engineers are under enemy fire while breaching. That certainly would not be boring!

That's an awesome method, Jer! Looks plenty convincing enough to my eye, and as 2nd Bat pointed out, it's something you can order your boys to push through without lawyering up.

Wow. Great find. Quite affordable to. Messy job but looks well worth the effort and time.

I was thinking of other props which might help with the immersion factor a bit. Some things such as old casks, or wooden barrels, wagon parts and horse drawn equipment( or even an old wagon bed flipped over) could provide ambiance and some cover. Especially since 1944 Europe had lots of such things laying around. These things can often be found at flea markets and old farm auctions. They would help to decorate a field and defenses can be built around such things to add "character" Signage is another thing which we could make. Im not fond of pallets, but I think steel drums are ok. Although, if I was in combat, the last thing I might take cover behind would be a steel drum filled with fuel. I have also been working some on building wooden crates and ammo boxes. Hopefully I will have some to bring to an event this year. But other things have taken precedent right now, like building myself a house. the idea of using wooden boxes to build a defensive position is kinda out, cause they take too much time to build. I would rather see people using them for their camp and to carry stuff to an event. Unless I can just cheaply glue some boxes up without finger jointing them and adding hardware, that may be doable for a defensive prop. Another idea would be to use slab wood with the bark still on them to make faux log walls as a type of barrier or something to hide behind. they could be free standing sections that could be arranged in lue of digging trench works. They could be good against small arms fire only, and would look better than pallets. Anyway, mull those ideas over a bit.

Hail bails piled here and there also add a lot to the ambience of an event if the event has open fields. I love the turned over wagon and things of that nature as well!

It would be really cool to possibly find some old 40's or 50's era junk cars/pickups at a junk yard, and setting them along a dirt road.

I'm cool with that idea as well, as long as we touch up the rust with paint to make the cars/trucks look burned out. Hell, I'll even use them first for target practice with my real steal K98 or Joshua can shoot his Enfield into them.

If this happens, I'd volunteer to bring ALL of my 98k's, my Enfields, my Garand and M1 Carbine so players can help make them look "appropriate." Might look like an MG42 was involved by the time we get through.

I just purchased 4X 230FT of twin to build Faux Barb wire! I'll get photos up along the way to show off the project!
Looking deeper into the pillbox. I've been pricing materials and it looks to me that this thing is going to cost roughly $300USD to build including all materials. That isn't exactly cheap. I think due to the cost I might re-consider using the insulation boards for something more durable for a little more the cost.
