Hello all,
I am starting an IJA impression, and was wondering whether or not a Thompson could be used as a "liberated" weapon, in place of the, currently absent, Japanese airsoft armory.
Thanks!

You can, i am sure it happened in extreme conditions. It will be farb but most pry won't give a balls lol.
The reason it would pry be farb is because I doubt the Japanese would throw down their weapons "given" to them by their emperor who they believed to a point a god of some sort. Think of it like this, if Jesus gave you a gun, would you really give it up?
edit, I plan to save up for the g&g 1903 and call it a day

I've seen quite a few pics of whole squads of Japanese soldiers with thompsons. I got a friend who is great with the research specifically with the use of Japamese use of the Thompson.

There are in fact quite a few pictures of Japanese soldiers armed with Thompsons. It was an extremely expensive weapon at the time and many many thousands were captured in China, Bataan, Corrigador and no doubt in the island battles. Certainly not the most common weapon for an Imperial Marine or Japanese soldier but absolutely not as dubious as many might think.
Given all the dozens of PTO events being held and the hundreds turning out at each, it would be reasonable to see one or two. Oh wait....I guess it's not really an issue.

Yeah thats true but I am thinking in terms of, on the field rather then seizing guns or resupplying. Anyways, I doubt anybody will care and worst case scenario, you have some people(pry BF guys) see your pics online and yell at you over the internet. Just wrap your puttees right and you'll be good =P

Alright, thanks. I was trying to find a Marushin Nambu for sale, but I just can't seem to find one. I think I will probably just stick with the Thompson I already have, until some genius at one of the Major airsoft companies decides to design a type 99.

That's the right call in my opinion.

Officers would have to buy their own handgun so yeah. The nambu was I believe called the poor man's handgun. essentially, if you're doing an officer impression you can use basically any ww2 handgun with a few exceptions here and there perhaps

Or you can get a kar98 as a stand in for a type 99. Then you could use it for a German and Polish kit! It may not be completely accurate for an IJA impression, but it would work in my opinion.

I read a thing that there were several thousand(i wanna say less then 25k) converted k98's sent to Japan. I couldn't find out what happened to them but thats a thing.
If you're specifically doing PTO, i would stick with maybe a garand because that way you're in between bolt action and full auto and it was there so thts kind of bleh. Honestly, unless you're doing a hardcore officers kit(Handgun and katana), you're going to be farb technically it's just a matter of how farb lol.
To be honest I am suprised nobody made a type100 smg seeing as you would only have to modify then sten. Yeah it wasn't common and I am unaware of any proper pouches for mags but I mean, it wouldn't be any worse then when all the germns had mp40's and all the american's had thompsons so bleh.
You wanna use a thompson, go for it, I believe only me and charlienovember have any sort of real IJA/N kit and while i'd prefer certain things i am not going to freak out and i doubt CN will care

I mean, it isn't a blank fire event. Airsofting is much more lax about everything than blank fire reenactors. This doesn't mean you can't try your best but I personally think a kar98 is the best way to go as there are no type 99s. I got an MP40, and that's what I use. But we're trying to organize a squad, so I'd be the only guy with an MP40 in my squad.

Yeah I was actually looking at the AGM sten, and I thought it would be pretty easy to convert. The only thing would be magazines, since I would have to use straight ones unless I also did something so it would accept mp 5 mags.

However, they cost an arm, a leg, and your first born child. They are good rifles though.

I think I'll just roll with the Thompson until I get the money to do a type 100. It seems like I'll basically just have to make a stock and a barrel shroud, then drop the sten inside. There's a guy on the UK forum who made one and the whole thing seems pretty straight-forward.

Yeah that was basically my plan. If I do go through with the type 100, I will deffiniteley put up some sort of thread showing how I did it.

Ouch! It may just be best to try the type 100. It will probably end up being cheaper than the type 99, and I wont have to try to reload the magazine every time I empty it in a game.

As stated by Shifty. Tokyo Hobby is one and the same with WW2Guns.com. Same owner, same horrible horrible reputtion for consistent rip offs.
