Hi All!
I didnt want to make a new thread for this so I just modified one of my old ones.
My M40 Field Grey tunic is too big for me. It is wool, and I know that wool can shrink. What is the method to make a wool uniform shrink.
Thank you very Much!

Well, it usually shrinks when you macine wash it, but that's not recomended.
I'd just sell it and buy the proper size, if you really phuck it up you'll be out a heft chunck of change.

Small is generally easier to find then big so agree with the notion of leaving well enough alone. trying to shrink to size is a very non scientific and unpredictable art form. Usually producing disasterous results.

If it's new wool I'd be careful. Back in the days before cheap german uniforms I used to have a converted swede Navy fieldblouse, They were cut more like the German army uniforms than swede army and I died mine in boiling rit dye washed it and dried it in a dryer and it didn't shrink a bit but that was 50 year old probably preshrunk wool. IF I wash my new wool at all I use cold water and gentle cycle with hang drying as the new wool can shrink. I prefer HBT uniforms and those shrink as well but I wear a 40 so buy a 42 and wash and dry it once in hot water and tumble dry and it shrinks the cotton to a perfect size 40 and stays there. it only shrinks once and then stays there forever no matter how many times I was the HBT. ...yeah, I also tried putting a Swedish wool tunic in a Rit Dye Bath; washed it; and hung it out to dry. It was a size 44 before the process; it actually shrunk to a size 42. I couldn't even button the coller button. As stated before, be very careful; not of your shrinking process, but of your temper, when you realize that your tunic may not fit you at all.--Ben
