What I did was place the sight where it needed to go, then I marked, drilled, and tapped the top of the receiver/barrel for a screw to go through one of the holes in the sight base. I chose (or cut to length, can't remember) a screw that would grip the hole I drilled, but not protrude to the inside of the barrel piece. When the time came to attach the sight base, I masked the inside of the hole in the barrel, gave myself some markings to get the sight close to where it belongs, then slathered the bottom of the sight with PC7 Epoxy. You could use JB Weld too, I just liked the pasty consistency (and lower cost per volume) of the PC7 for this particular application. Then I quickly placed the screw, shifted the sight around til I found the hole, then tightened it til it was snug, but not so much as to strip the screw.
At this point I wiped away any excess epoxy, then used a putty knife to make the seam as even as possible. If it's not perfect-- high areas or gaps-- no worries, because the next step is to wait for it to dry then file/sand it flush and carefully fill any little gaps or holes, this time using JB Weld for its smoother consistency. Repeat the drying, sanding, and filing until you get a nice even surface on all sides, at which point you're ready to paint.
Some people don't bother with the screw, they just epoxy it, but I feel like every added bit of strength is welcome out in the field, and it's not hard at all to do, all you need is a basic tap and die set.
Good luck with the build, looking good!

A rear site and a little cosmetic fill in some of your gaps will take your rifle from "looking good" to "fabulous". Nice effort! Thanks for sharing.

Dremel for cuts, either JB Weld or PC -7 to fill in the gaps.
