So I finally gone and done it, I bought a Jeep. Its a 1943 GPW Jeep. I bought the bastard without a title and boy let me tell you how fun it was dealing with the Ca DMV. It took a lot of running around and doing people searches to find previous owners but I eventually got the title. She came with a spare engine, spare transmission, 2x spare tires, 2x starting motors.
She is a bit of a frankenjeep at the moment but I am slowly fixing that. The previous owner had bought the wrong starting motor for the jeep so I had to buy one. They had the wiring all jacked up so I rewired it. It has a Cj2 or Cj3 windshield frame that will get replaced in time. They were in the middle of making it a 12v system but only bought the regulator
I put a new head gasket on her, new 6v voltage regulator, Oil filter and lines, gas filter, fuel pump gasket, new gas pedal, starter switch, ignition switch, master cylinder, battery and I rebuilt the carburetor. I am waiting on some parts, wheel cylinders, brakes and a transmission repair kit.

I found this out on the WWII jeep restoring forum I've been frequenting,

"The number should now be GPW 109553 with a twist.
If the number had been 101553 the third digit 1 would look like the first digit 1 and it does not.
The twist is a 6 has been used upside down to make a nine. This is not the norm since there is a separate 9 that is different from the 6 in the GPW frame stamps used by Ford.
From my GPW studies and databases, your GPW 109553 should have come from the Louisville, Ky. assembly plant. The most likely DoD should be April 20, '43. The original hood number should be in the 20371xxx range. " - Tom Wolboldt
