So, I just got another M14 in, and I'm trying to melt the glue that holds castle nut and the flash hider in place on my new M14. I prop it up over the stove top, and set it low heat. I take a piss, come back, not even a minute later, and its FREAKING T-1000...... In my defense, last time I tried this, with a CYMA one, it worked fine, this was an AGM M14.... (And no, our stove top is not that dirty. Its some old stove from the 50's that you can't actually turn off the heat, unless you blow out the pilot light and start breathing all that gas from it, so the area around the burners are ALWAYS hot. We try to clean it, buuuuut, everything usually evaporates the second or two after we spray it with whatever...) At least I got it off!

Yeah, I have, but the failure was of a different sort: Got an MP44 that needed work, and while GENTLY disassembling it, the "sheet metal" castings snapped in several places, as easy as you could imagine.
I ended up just saving the guts on that one for parts for my other rifles.

Damn.... What brand of MP44 so I know which to stay away from?
I also had this one gun, it was a SCAR. I was trying to remove the flash hider so I could put a orange flash hider on it. I try to twist it off, and then I end up RIPPING the outer barrel, from like an inch or two below the flash hider, clean off of the rest of the outer barrel. It was a legit, clean rip, as if I did some precise laser cutting to it. I was mind blown, I didn't even think I was using that much strength either...

I have some M14 flash hiders. (CYMA032) That I list on Ebay fairly regularly. They are parts that often break apparently as whenever I list them they ALWAYS sell. I start them at $18.00 plus shipping which is usually $3.00 in the US. They are take offs from my conversions and include the castle nuts. They are brand new.

I don't know what brand that MP44 was, but since I have at least one of the major clones out there and have not had similar problems, I think it might have been a bad lot of metal.

2ndBat: Thanks for the offer, but I don't need a new one just yet. I still have my flash hider from my failed G43 conversion and this M14 might become my Garand.
Insterburger: Damn, though. Just having the MP44 just fall apart on you like that.

The AGM M14 is actually a pretty decent M14 Marui clone. They hold up well, shoot good and overall are better than the Kart, TSD etc. The CYMA and ECHO are the best (I think actually they are one and the same) and I have owned all of them. The CYMA / Echo shoot harder out of the box, have a better inner barrel and just offer better build quality all around.
I have been quite happy with the AGM base components in Garand Conversions and other projects. I did not realize that the zinc metal would melt so readily! I knew it was brittle and easily broke but yikes! Obviously that low melting point makes it much much easier to use in manufacturing.

Thats exactly what I'm feeling right now with the M14. Sans this whole debacle with the T-1000 flash hider here....
