Hi all, Just wondered if you guys could help me out, how do you get around tanaka mags not fitting in the leather pouches?
Do you just not use them or what?It just seems a bit stupid to have the pouches on when I cant get the mags in them with out leaving them open.
So what do you guys do?
Thanks

Well, first off, if you're going to choose the Kar-98 as your main firearm, and you're working towards a realistic German SS (or Heer) impression, you MUST own and wear the ammo pouches. Believe it or not, the two ammo pouches on either side of the belt buckle is what brings the "gear look" together. If you're having trouble finding a spot to store your extra mags, just do what I do: put em' in your Breadbag.

Thanks for the reply,I know what your saying I took the pouches off earlier and the whole look was totaly changed.
I was just wondering if you guys used special custom made pouches that were deeper or something.

Sounds like an enterprise opportunity for someone. I'm surprised no one has addressed it already.

That's in a sense "Flaggrantly Wrong" though, I think if nobody tries converting them, to use a breadbag.

G43 pouches work fine. You'd be pissed to lose a 50.00 mag out of a breadbag.

Then buy some g43 pouches and sew em inside the breadbag or something, it just takes something away when you spend a grand or two on your german impression only to have something sticking out that is out of place.

Why are G43 pouches Flaggrantly Wrong Mauser? K98 pouches were used with G43's. Why couldn't a Soldat have a G43 pouch while carrying a K98.
As far as custom K98 pouches. I looked into them. I would have to charge $60.00 per pouch. So $120.00 per set. So I'm sure most guys would be more than happy with a $50.00 G43 pouch.

"Flaggrantly Wrong"? I wouldn't go so far as to call it "Flaggrantly Wrong", but I do see Mauser's point. Carrying the correct ammo pouch would look better in the field, but if saving a buck is more the deal, then so be it. Don't forget though, the M40 and the M43 Tunic is jammed packed with outter pockets, so use them instead.

This is an issue, and here is what I do...
I use kar 98 pouches with a g43 pouch tucked away at the side, Tanaka mags are way too big unfortunatly.
I woudl love to develop a device that can load 8 bbs into the magazine while its still in the gun, I think this is possible... and it would be a hell of alot more realistic.
Finally, NO. a real german soldeir would never have a G43 pouch with a Kar98. Perhaps it happened once... but that not enough allow in ww2aa -Gordak

Hmmmmmm would a soldier with a Kar have a G-43 pouch tucked off to the side? Maybe once but not enough for WW2aa. I'm just busting your chops as well.

The mags have a spot for the gas.

Strange thing. If you do some research those troops issued with the G43 were only issued one G43 ammo pouch. The other pouch would be a standard K98 pouch. In airsoft terms, just say that your G43 "malfunctioned" so you grabbed a K98 off of a dead kamerad.

The rarity of something like that is too high, and imagine games set before 1943? Then again, I am a stitch nazi at heart, so whatever.

G43s DID mailfunction too! part of the gas system would get jammed on the early ones.
as far as Im aware g 43s were always issued one g43 pouch, and one kar98 pouch.
Rarely snipers got ahold of two g43 pouches.
the truth is, you can actually reload the rifle just as quick with stripper clips, so you actually carried MORE ammo when you went with only one g-43 pouch I used g-43s in reenacting for years before I got the 44. -Gordak
