So when I'm not wearing my mantel (over coat) where would it be kept, I'm talking still winter/fall but to hot to wear it until the sun goes down or in the shade for a prolonged time, I almost always wear my A-frame, but it seems to be a pain to wrap around on top like the blanket.

Just don't bring it. Wear a sweater under your tunic for when it gets colder during a game.

How often did Germans use mantels in winter compared to ones wearing sweaters?

They wore the mantel quite often, I would say even the vast majority of the time. A good trick I find if I am getting too warm with the mantel on is to take off my tunic underneath. No one can tell it isn't there, and it is about as lightweight as wearing the tunic and sweater, if not the tunic alone. On top of that, you still get the correct German winter look.

But if it's not cold enough there's n need to wear one. I'd just say wear a sweater under your tunic.

It usually does get cold enough in the snow/mountains, and of course the nights can be unforgiving, and of course I don't have a sweater :/

I'm Mormon. I don't drink coffee XD maybe warming up some warm water and dropping a piece of the Scho la Kola into the warm water. It won't be delicious, but you'll feel like a german on the front lines making some makeshift hot chocolate or something LOL XD
