No, they wouldnt have a belt or a holster and stuff in flight, and think. Probably not even a field cap. Think logical, you are in a tight plane, you dont need gear, letalone a sidearm and a field cap. If you jumped, it would fly off, so you wouldnt even have a field cap. You should just go with the uniform and no hat or gear/weapons.

The reason I am getting it is because in a battle I would need a gun and the field cap would be better for during combat

well if you had a gun, then the whole concept of your impression is just an excuse to be different in combat, which isn't needed.

Why be a pilot for combat? A downed pilot wouldn't have a gun or a field cap.

the whole reason for him wanting to do downed pilot is becuase at the Chicago events, we often play a "downed pilot" scenario. I say if you want to do it, go for it! It would be a really neat impression if you could pull it off, which I'm sure you could base don your amazing italian kit!

Yes, but why have a gun if the scenario is to be rescued from being captured?

It may seem a little silly, but it has it's merrits. The problem is as a downed pilot you'd pretty much just roam around and wait for someone to come rescue you or shoot you. It seems a little boring if you ask me. I can see this thread turning into a huge flame war, keep it civil kiddies. We'll be watching.

so he can protect himself. That is how we played last time. I'm not too sure on how it worked, Ranger Tom was the downed pilot. It was actually pretty cool. That was the scenario where I filmed the last game.

I don't think it's that far off for him to have a pistol. Why wouldn't a pilot carry a pistol? An M43, overseas cap, or peaked cap? No. But a pistol. I could see that.

American pilots carried pistols so why wouldn't a German one?

Well actually, German pilots usually carried sidearms, mostly P38's and ppk's. Radom's and Luger's were also used but not nearly as much. Also I don't believe they would wear m43 caps, but they did have overseas caps.

I would guess based on anecdotal stories and photographic evidence that most pilots and lots of air crewmen were armed with pistols when they bailed. Most had hats in their POW photos and I'll bet those weren't supplied by their captors. Your best bet would be a leather shearling coat or leather flight jacket along with a shearling lined cap and flight boots. Spendy impression however!
We usually allow our downed pilots to have a pistol and spare magazine and often splint his leg to minimize his manueverability and simulate a parachute injury. It works well.

American pilots carried pistols so why wouldn't a German one? The Fw-190 and BF-109 (E and G models notoriously) had really cramped cockpits, it took them all their time to get in and out in their flight gear.

I agree with Spitfire. Portraying a downed pilot would bring a bit of flavor to the combat.
