Has anyone built their own Silencer for the Sten MK2 and if so will you share your secret with me? Thanks

I made a few Sten MKIIS' a few years ago. Used the King Arms 335mm x 40mm lightweight silencer. Just have to tap a few holes in the Sten's cylinder block. Match up some drilled holes in the silencer and fasten with some small allen screws. Pretty easy work.

what do you mean by "tap a few holes in the stens cylinder block"?

You'll need something like this: Tap and Die Set.Lots of video tutorials available: how to tap and dieYou should also replace the stock inner barrel with an airsoft 363mm M4 length inner barrel.

I know what and how to tap and die, my question was more along the line of why would you tap into the cylinder block? Why do you recommend that barrel replacement ? Thank you for your help

I would imagine tapping and attaching the silencer to the cylinder block would add to the stability, rather than just shortening the existing barrel and tapping it for 14mm neg threads. I suppose you could do that, and simply screw off the silencer and make an out barrel extension to screw back on to go back to the default arrangement. Swapping out the inner barrel for a longer tightbore would greatly increase your accuracy and precision between shots, and after all, adding the silencer would give you more space for a longer inner barrel, I'd say why not?

The M4 length barrel matches well with the length of the silencer the stock inner barrel is quite short. You can also get away with using a 300mm inner barrel (M4CQB aeg). Longer TB inner barrel also increases the factory FPS by 15%. Tapped into the cylinder block so the silencer could be fixed to the sten. Of course there are other ways to attach. That's just how I did the 3 I converted. Also switched from T Stock to the Longbranch Skeleton stock and used a very small hobby lipo for power. Sten MK2S is barely a wwii weapon. Costuming up as a Para with a MKIIS would be fruity. Saw more action in Korea, Malaya, Viet Nam. Added some pics:

Brownien, that makes sense. trying to keep cosmetic without any real changes to the basic sten. So I could switch back and forth at need.
Shiftsup, Thank you for insight, just a little wary of altering by way of tapping into the cylinder block. FYI the SOE and Jedburghs made a lot of use of the MK2S not to mention the Services Reconnaissance Department and SOE Force 136 and Z force. So it did see a lot of service in WW2.

The SOE variant was different. The SOE CISA Silencer was much longer. In regards to how much the MKIIS was used in wwii is arguable. I don't recall ever reading a first hand account of the MKIIS being used in wwii. Even the use of a silenced sten for operation antropid is debatable since Gabčík hid the sten under his coat. Silence stens are difficult to conceal.
The Sten MkIIS' first contract order was for 5600 pieces on Feb 19, 1944 and that initial order was reduced to 2,665 finished guns. Much of what is documented is on second hand account variety. Harlan Glenn's books come to mind.
Regardless, it a nice piece to replicate for airsoft.

Currently working on a Sten MKV conversion. Wood stock, wood forward grip and pistol grip, etc etc. Hopefully I'll get some spare hack time in the spring and finish it.

Silenced Stens were a popular "Arms Room" check out item for LRRP units in Vietnam. We had a number of exotic WW2 era weapons in our Arms Room. BARs, Thompsons, Grease Guns, Carbines and two stens. The Stens with silencers were commonly brought along on EPW snatch missions although when something close to true "silence" was needed a HUSH PUPPY pistol was the preferred choice.

They are remarkably simplistic weapons. Because the round is subsonic they are a logical pick for a silenced weapon although they still produced far more sound then the movies would have you believe. The only thing close to a silenced weapon was the hush puppy. A silenced Sten was just slightly less noisy than an airsoft AEG.

I have a library of STEN variants, to decide what I want to do for an SOE rig. I was thinking about the SOE silencer, but haven't decided yet. there is a metric crap-ton of STEN images on the web, and several mod walk-throughs.
