Here's a major issue we have in Arizona. Nothing German-related is tolerable during the summer months. I am contemplating making a gray summer (Propper brand) bdu uniform look green/gray with dye and putting repro insignia on it. And before anyone suggests it, I am not interested in destroying a 150 dollar Afrika Korp replica uniform playing Airsoft in the brush either. I know the hardcores on this site will scream "Blasphemy!" in regards to using a non-wool dyed uniform but I really have no choice if I want to play the part April through September in Az. Come to my neighborhood with your 600 dollar kit in August and I will make sure an ambulance is standing by when you have heatstroke within an hour. Anyone have advice on some summer cotton uniforms that make a good Wermacht replacement and are NOT high end replicas? Thanks guys.

Yeah, as much as I loved Rat Patrol as a kid, I never wanted to be an Arfika Korp soldier. I guess I have no choice in Az. I'm the only WW2 guy in my Airsoft group and most of them wouldn't know the difference between a WW2 German uniform and a Civil War Confederate one. It's all about comfort for me. I sport modern British desert DPM's all summer because I have no choice when it's 110 degrees. I'll work on it.

I watched "Raiders Of The Lost Ark" today, trying to convince myself that DAK Afrika Korp uniforms can look cool. I do like how they mixed tan pants with the older olive tops & jackboots in "Raiders". It's a tight look so I went ahead and bought a uniform for 107.00 (total WITH shipping). search.ebay.com/_W0QQsassZchinabest2006QQhtZ-1

Be careful with that guy. $30.00 for a tunic and $55.00 to ship it? I've seen some of his stuff and you can see through it the material is so thin.
And the Raiders of the Lost Ark "Afrika Korps" uniforms are far from historically accurate. I would base my impression on research, not movies.

I do a lot of research, but unfortunately looks always win out. No matter how accurate something is, if I don't like it visually, I won't wear it. I'm the only WW2 guy in my Airsoft group, so anything goes really. "Raiders" is actually fairly accurate. Have you seen it lately? I was freezing many scenes with the DAK troops and it mostly looks dead-on. Tan canvas Y straps, insignias were good, some black, some brown K98 pouches, some jack boots, some brown ankle boots. If you know something specific that was wrong about "Raiders" uniforms, please share it. It seems a lot of guys on this board just jump on people saying "It's a movie. The uniforms are all wrong!" without really clarifying anything. Thanks for the tips about the fabric quality. I guess I'll do a follow up post in the vendor section when the uniform arrives.

Yes a lot of "guys" on this board jump on people about basing their impressions off of a movie because we strive for 100% historical accuracy here. Just because you "like the way something looks" doesn't make it acceptable for WW2AA use. Maybe I'll show up to the next WW2AA Chicago event dressed like Darth Vader with a Dot 44 helmet cover. I think that would look cool. Now you said you were the only guy doing WWII in your group, so with that in mind, do what ever you'd like. But posting fantasy uniforms here will no doubt stir up a few critical comments. So be warned. Now, abut those ROTLA DAK uniforms. First off, MP40's were used heavily in the movie and they were not even around when ROTLA was to have happened, and the uniforms were East German converted to "look" like DAK uniforms. There are a few other "knit picking" things about the uniforms but this is not an Indiana Jones forum, go there if you'd like. I post on that forum as well. And have I seen Raiders lately? Yeah...I saw it once or twice. ;D Halloween '06

Ouch. You got me (althought the Vader reference is a little silly. Darth Vader wasn't even in WW2! Or was he?). That's cool. Thanks for the info. At last, someone backs up what they post! How refreshing. Raiders is definately one of the greatest films ever made. It still looks holds up today (25 years later!). I'm a fan of accuracy, but there are some uniform (Axis & Allied) that I cannot stand the look of. Not to offend anyone here, so I won't list them ("ahem" Dot 44). I'm sure the Raiders DAK uniforms were done as cost effective as possible, but they looked great on film. Regardless, we have a tough time with airsoft in Arizona during the summer. It's about 105 degrees and the desert is filled with nasty trees and cactus. Not the environment you want to run around in with a 300 dollar kit. I just want to get the idea across and still be able to abuse my uniform without crying over a torn sleeve. Maybe I should just convert East German uniforms as well? I need a tan canvas y-strap. Anyone know where to get one for less than 30 dollars?

Here's a great pic I used for the DAK idea as well. This should help anyone too cheap to pay 17 bucks for the book!

You could go Italian . They have cooler uniforms, in my opinion. Italian uniforms are very expensive, and I know you want stuff you won't cry over if it gets ripped, so you could substitute by using a German Desert field shirt, a pair of Italian camo pants (all over ebay) and an Italian helmet (used well into 90's so they are cheap) and you're basically set. Italian field gear is rather easy to find on ebay. You can't really get into this hobby without spending alot, so if you want to go the "farb" way you could use my suggestion.

LOL I take that back! Boba Fett! He's got a Webley flare pistol! Actually, alot of the stuff that they used for the original trilogy was surplus WWII. Han had a C96 Sand Troopers had MG34's Tons of the gear was surplus. Stormtrooper blasters were sterlings.

I actually have a Boba Fett costume. I will wear it to the next airsoft event. ;D
Also, look at the similarities the Imperial & WWII German uniforms shared. It's no secret that Lucas based the Empire off of Nazi Germany.

Lucas didn't really do anything revolutionary. The whole movie is based off different events in history. Still cools movies though, lol.
As JD would say, Boy did we hijack this thread. Back to the kraut uniform discussion! If anyone wants to discuss SW hit me up on AIM or MSN, lol.

I just picked up a M43 field cap for $30 at the local gun show back in October. The guy was also selling field caps in one of the camo patterns used during the was too and I think they were like $10 I belive it was this kind but I can't remember. www.kamouflage.net/camouflage/en_00002.phpI plan on going to the next show in January and if the guy is the and he has the caps still I'm going to buy one in my size.

You could have sent it back to IMA with a full refund. That's what I did with my helmet, although they screwed up my order and replaced it with the original item I ordered.

I know, but like an excited kid at Christmas I threw away the invoice and box. But I want the hat that came with it as it fits perfectly. If it doesn't sell, I may wash it hot and try to shrink it up a bit. It's still too heavy to wear in the summer.

Is it the EXACT same uniform? If so, I screwed up. Do you carry different sizes or are they all the same? Also, this one came with the heer eagle, rank and rifle badge. The eagle was not sewn on though...The hat fits like a glove at least.

Yeah, thanks for the link. Nice looking straps. I've since ditched the DAK idea in favor of finishing my Fallschirmjager Gran Sasso rescue (see my profile pic) kit that was half-done for a year. It's now almost complete and I will post a pic of it before the end of the month.
