I've got a question on the Kar-98(airsoft). I know of the Tanaka Kar-98, but is there any other brand that is cheaper, or is just a spring? Sorta like the TM VSR10 is. If not...would any of you say that the wood version of the TM VSR-10 would be good enough for a Kar-98 impersonation? It has a different look, but...eI figure I should ask here of all places. ~Blitz~

Well then later your going to learn that a stock TM VSR-10 is useless in combat.

It's not that it isn't a good gun, it's just that stock, it's about as powerful as your average AEG. The mag capacity is so low, and the action so slow, it's not worth it. However, it does make a nice platform for a DM gun.

I'm a little confused here, you want to run around in period authentic uniforms, but don't want the guns to perform as realistic as they can?

I believe Russianboy's point is that since the performance of airsoft weapons is, in fact, significantly inferior to real steel, there is little point in attempting to be realistic regarding 'ammunition' loadouts.
1) BB's won't penetrate even light cover, or heavy concealment (i.e a thick bush). Bullets do. 2) BB's have an effective range of, at most, 200 feet. Effective range on a Kar-98k (or the weapon of your choice) is several hundred yards. 3) With bullets, the opponent always knows they are hit. There is also a visible indication of a hit (dust puff and blood). Not so with small and lightweight bbs. 4) Even the least accurate real steel is more accurate than the best airsoft weapon. Fewer misses = less ammo needed.

IF all people have the same handicap, it will still be fair.
Else we could just run around with 12V batteries and hicap magazines.

What I hate that pisses me off are people who take there M-4 and put a C-mag on it... I think large drum and box mags should be left to real LMGs and SAWs.

ok, besides the ammo and "range of realism" what is the big deal you all have against the VSR?

Get the VSR and upgrade it later on if you like. Shooting semi auto bolt action in a game where they do not control semi and FA or the FPS of guns beyond the standard 400fps or less for AEG's you will be at a disadvantage. That is really all there is to it. Stock you are going to be shooting bolt action style at about 280-300fps with the VSR at a normal regulated game on a field some people will be shooting 280 just like you some people will be shooting 400fps and everything between some guns will be more or less accurate then yours. The AEG's will have 5-10 bb's in the air coming downrange towards you in the time you fire once cock the gun and sight in again. Odds are that they will have you. However you will probally still have fun and you will get some kills with your VSR 10. IF you are looking for cheap then you can buy the Chinamade copy of the VSR 10. gunnerairsoft.com sells them. alot cheaper yet they take the same parts when you get ready to upgrade. So there you have it. If you are set on buying it then just buy it. Now you know what to expect though.
